The sun is shining! Why ain't we out makin hay?
Another post pointed out the lost opportunity the Fourth offered the Democratic Party, an opinion with which I concur.

There is a more obscure anniversary coming in September, the signing of the Constitution. Since the party couldn't organize itself to take the Fourth and point out this mal-administration's illegal activities, it's doubtful they have the ability to take advantage of that day either. However, if we can, then perhaps the election hopefuls will show up.

Just before the Fourth, a once fallow field was finely plowed and sown by the recent Hamden V. Rumsfeld decision (PDF) of the Supreme Court. We have an opportunity to nurture that field into a fine crop to harvest on September 17. To leverage this date we must start now.

I need your help to do this. I am trying to organize a NetRoots movement and I invite you to join. I have a resolution of which an earlier version started my journal.

The issue at hand is fundamental to our international interests and furthermore I think this is a constitutional crisis being ignored by congress, thus the significance of the date.

My vision is to have 500,000 in DC on the mall in front of the Capitol, just in time to raise a helluva ruckus right before the mid-term elections. So maybe it's a pipe dream, but with your help we can make this happen. Yes I know I'm a neophyte activist, but I feel strongly I must at least try.

Please let me know what you think. If you agree with this as a strategy, kick and recommend this.

1. thanks for caring about the Constitution!
Someone has thrown a bucket of water in my thread on the missed opportunity.

hootinholler, don't limit yourself to a D.C. event. So many people can't travel for one reason or another. It would be great to have concurrent events at State Capitols, too.

Unfortunately, organizing Dems is like herding spiders. Very hard to actually get them out. Maybe it should be a nonpartisan event, drawing from the Constitutionalists on the right, as well.

2. I view it as a Constitutional and Justice event.
All are welcome! There are quite a number of Eisenhower Republicans I have not lost my respect for.

The Resolution calls for a nation-wide protest.
