The pundits are right, the family is under attack.
We regularly hear from the pundits that contaminate our so-called “news” networks that the American family is under siege. They tell us that the institution of marriage is under attack by the immoral degenerates who are working hard to destroy everything America stands for.

You know what, I have to agree with those pundits. The American family is under attack. It is under attack by the people who send young men and women off to die so that a few rich oil-men can reap big profits off death and destruction. How many thousands of families have been torn apart by the loss of a family member in this immoral and illegal massacre, and how many thousands more families will be torn apart before this war crime is over?

Yes the family is under attack. It is under attack by the people who support a health care system that leaves tens of millions of people uninsured and untold millions more underinsured. How many more children have to tough out their illness because government cares more about the profits of the insurance companies than they do about the health of their nation? How many more families have to watch their loved ones die slow, painful deaths because they could not afford to pay their health care costs?

The family is under attack by the people who refuse to raise the minimum wage while allowing the CEOs that underpay their workers to rake in billions of dollars in personal wealth. How can we sit by silently and watch while millions live below poverty in the richest nation in the world? How can we live with the fact that there are huge numbers of families with children who do not even have a home? What does it tell us about our country when the people who are put on a mantle of family-virtue want to cut off government aid to poor families while children are starving?

Yes the family is under attack, and it is under attack by these so called “pro-family” organizations who get on national television and tell children that if their parents happen to be of the same sex that means they must be bad parents. These children already deal with enough homophobia, but how could it help these children to attack their parents on national television? The next time you hear a politician go on the television and say that gays and lesbians can not be good parents, imagine what all the kids of those gay and lesbian couples will have to deal with. How would you feel as a child if one of the dominant political themes in our discourse was that your parents were not good enough?

Yes the family is under attack, and it is under attack from the very people who claim to be protecting it. I am sick to death of being called “anti-family” from the most immoral people on the face of this nation. I love my family, and I will not take the attacks of these people any more. They want to talk about family values, well that is good because I am ready to have a talk about their values.

who have been torn apart by the political tension brought about by this illegal administration.

5. The breakdown of families has nothing to do with gays or immorality.
It has EVERYTHING to do with the fact that ever since stagflation hit back in the 70's both parents have had to work 12 hours/day to make ends meet, that means Mom and Dad are spending less time with the kids and less time with each other.

6. Certainly that is a big part of it.
I also happen to think that a lack of universal health care, a war that is draining our treasury and killing our people, and the daily hatred against gays that is preached in the corporate media are having an effect on the breakdown of the family.

Families still usually have a lot of love for one another so I don't think the family is decaying morally by any means, and I think family values should best be left to the family. However I also believe that we as a society have an obligations to help provide people with the basics they need to succeed in life. We need high-quality health care, a strong education system, and an end to state sponsored violence. That is how we will defend families, not by trying to force any set of values on them but by living by our own values.

This sort of discussion would be our national unified agenda. We're fighting for the American family when we push for a minimum wage, Universal Healthcare, and when we repeal corporatist bills like the Bankrupsy Bill, the Drug Bill, the Telecom Bill of 1996.

Unfortunately we have the DLC Congress who is too afraid of upsetting thier corporate paymasters to fight to win the class war the Republicans started after The New Deal.
