Zogby defends poll results (Virginia Senate Race)
The head of one of the largest political polling operations in the country says Virginia is shaping up to be a battleground in Democratic efforts to unseat Republican incumbents like Sen. George Allen.

And John Zogby says Allen campaign attacks on the result of the latest Wall Street Journal/Zogby Interactive poll are "over the top.''

"Attack dogs don't attack unless they are scared,'' Zogby said in response to a Daily Press article about the poll, which found that Democratic challenger Jim Webb has battled to within six percentage points of Allen.

Zogby was reacting to comments made by Allen campaign manager Dick Wadhams, who called the Zogby poll "a joke.'' Wadhams also said that Zogby has been "discredited'' and that the Wall Street Journal should be "embarrassed'' for printing the poll.

9. Polls? So What...WHO is doing the COUNTING? The main purpose of Polls is
to convince the population that the races are "close" otherwise the stolen elections would be more obvious.

12. I've been thinking along that same line...I mean, the year preceding...
...the 2004 presidential election showed Bush suffering big time at around 45-48%--some even lower!---in the national polls, yet they suddenly spiked closer to election day while John Kerry's dropped??

As long as Republican-beholden corporations are allowed to count our votes, and polls jump mysteriously for no apparent reason, Americans have lost their only power over our government.

Scray, ain't it?

2. Yep, Zogby is a joke
unless of course, the poll showed Allen with a huge lead. Then it would be the greatest thing since sliced bread. Now any polling done by Luntz, that is reliable. Yeah right. The friggin' repubs time is coming to an end and they are going to smear anyone who gets in their way, whether it's true or not. And if EVERY poll shows a Democratic candidate in the lead, it'll be harder to steal the election.

Senator George Allen (R-VA)
Conservative Political Action Conference
Washington, DC
February 9, 2006

Ladies and gentlemen. Patriots all! Good evening!

Allen Philosophy
As many of you know, I grew up in a coach’s family. As such, I was raised on the four Fs of Life: Faith, Family, Freedom and Football!

But I say, remember Ronald Reagan who changed all the dynamics of the Cold War, which went on for nearly fifty years. Reagan didn’t think you could appease, co-exist, and accommodate the Soviet Union. He changed the dynamics in favor of the advancement of freedom. And now, because of Ronald Reagan—along with Margaret Thatcher and Pope John Paul the Second—there are millions of people in Central and Eastern Europe who were locked behind that Iron Curtain, who are now tasting that sweet nectar of liberty, and they are our friends and allies. He persevered, and freedom prevailed.

February 06, 2006
Today, because of Ronald Reagan, there are literally hundreds of millions of people who were once locked behind the Iron Curtain living in countries we now know as free countries--Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, former East Germany, Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, and added countries such as Ukraine and Georgia, which are now tasting that sweet nectar of liberty as opposed to being behind the Iron Curtain.

Today, thanks to Ronald Reagan, as I saw Ambassadors on
the House floor from Lithuania, from Romania, throughout Central
Europe--those were hundreds of millions of people who were behind the
Iron Curtain. But, thanks to Ronald Reagan's perseverance, for his
belief in the dignity of all human beings, that all people do yearn to
be free, to exercise their God-given rights, those people who were
behind that Iron Curtain, who were enemies, are now tasting that sweet
nectar of liberty.

Because of President Reagan's steadfast determination, hundreds of millions of people tasting that sweet nectar of liberty in central Europe are now friends and allies," said Senator Allen.

On the 2004 election

Ronald Reagan's election changed the dynamic of the Cold War from one of containment and co-existence to the advancement of freedom. As a result, hundreds of millions of people in Central Europe, once behind the Iron Curtain, now taste the sweet nectar of liberty, have joined NATO, and are true friends and allies.

But President Reagan believed the blessings of liberty must not be bestowed only on a few nations and only to those blessed to be born on free soil; Ronald Reagan, with the strength of his convictions, exported and advanced democracy to continents, countries, and people yearning to taste the sweet nectar of libert.

19. The DNC closed offices here, that's what I
heard, so they could concentrate in Ohio/Florida in the final push. We were so close, and Swift Boat ads against Kerry were running 24/7 in the final week.

21. Mmmm not the one I was in
Okay it wasn't a DNC office but it was a call center (Firefighter's union) that my wife and I ran-great group of volunteers made about 50,000 or so calls the last weekend.

The Swift Boat ad was on but the one I saw more of was the "No one will be in there with you" creepy RW ad geared towards women you know who might get all crazy and consider voting for Kerry.

The Richmond office did ship off two of their paid ops (young guys just out of school) to Wisconsin and Ohio but otherwise it was up and running all the way through.

was left high and dry....Norfolk and Va Beach offices went dark in those final days, Thelma Drake ran all over Iraq Vet David Ashe in the final throes with Swiftboat ads, which were Anti-Kerry BUT supporting Ashe meant you were supporting terrorism. Argghhh...yes, voters were either that stooopid, or our voting machines were that fooked up. I choose to believe stupid :hi:

27. The polls were higher margin than that
From September forth, Bush led every Virginia poll by 4-11 points: http://www.realclearpolitics.com/Presidential_04/va_polls.html

He won by 8 but that was still a good result for us in Virginia since the nation was 2.46% for Bush, so we closed to within 5.5% partisan index deficit in Virginia, much better than previously and continuing the trend in our favor. We didn't even campaign full blast in Virginia so that -5.5% is probably a bit high ebven for 2004, if you project a full battleground state emphasis.

I'm confident it will be down to -3 or less in '08, the way northern Virginia is trending. That means we can win the state in '08 with Warner on the ticket, or if the Democratic nominee wins the national popular vote by 2 or 3 points or higher.

26. Caution is Urged...
I am very concerned about the Polls being discredited and deemed irrelevant. We need independent polling more than anything, but short of that, I'd really hate to see what polls we do have disappeared.
