College Repukes Global Cooling Beach Parties Mocking Gore

Gawd I hate these smart-ass young Chickenhawks!

http://www.crnc.org/index.php?content=beach

Freeze out cataclysmic environmental scare tactics with a little humor. The Oklahoma University College Republicans gave out free snow cones to students for an event they called "Global Cooling Day."

Stage an event like this one to grab the attention of your campus and raise awareness on the falsities of the global warming phenomenon. Engage with students and debunk some of the myths and cool the hyperbole surrounding the issue.

OU CRs simultaneously used the event to promote their first meeting, sign-up members, and sell CR shirts. A tent and tables were set up at the busiest spot on campus, and OU CRs gave away nearly 1,000 snow cones each day.

Prior to your "Global Cooling Day" event, arm your College Republican chapter with solid talking points on the issue, and then kick-back and enjoy the sun. The facts are on your side.

WASHINGTON, June 2 /U.S. Newswire/ -- As more and more experts continue to confirm the harmful effects of global warming, the College Republican National Committee is urging its membership to mock the threat by throwing beach parties this summer. The College Republicans actions demonstrate the misplaced priorities and short-sightedness of the future of the Republican Party, according to the Democratic National Committee. As College Democrats continue to fight for issues that young Americans care about like an affordable college education, Republicans continue to push their out of touch agenda.

"The College Republicans' beach parties mocking global warming are just another example of the misplaced priorities and short- sightedness of the Republican Party," said College Democrats of America President Grant Woodard. "The College Republicans' ignorance toward the seriousness of global warming and climate change shows a Party more focused on partying than talking seriously about the issues facing young people across America. While College Republicans party on this summer, College Democrats will be knocking on doors, working to get Democrats elected nationwide. With young leadership like this, Republicans should prepare to get burned in the upcoming elections."

Yeah, just get everyone to open their refrigerator door for a day, that'll cool things down. And did you know that if you are on a sailboat and the wind dies, you can blow into the sail and that'll move you?

We are witnessing the culmination of the 25 year attack on public education by Republicans.

It is a sad state of affairs when college students revel in their display of stupidity, and encourage others to join them.

The global warming phenomenon is hardly settled science. 50 % is fact. 25 % is fraudulent. 25% is hokum

Personally, I think global warming is an actual event, just not very sure if we humans have a darn thing to do with it or for that matter can change anything to stop it.

No, just my gut feel
Certainly there is a percentage that publish simply to get additional grant money, some publish simply bad science and some publish reliable, peer reviewed science on both side of the issue.

My percents may be an opinion, but for sure the ENTIRE scientific community is NOT in agreement on global warming or will be until the understanding of the science that drives global warming gets much better

global warming is a fact. The claims that it's not true come from political, not scientific sources. There's not a reputable scientist left who denies the reality that global climate change is occurring at an accelerated rate and that the results are likely to be catastrophic if nothing is done.

And no, I'm not kidding, nor am I a "true believer." I just prefer to take seriously objective peer-reviewed scientific research over the "research" financed by the petroleum industry. Fact is, the scientific community has overwhelmingly accepted global climate change as reality. Nobody is forcing you to listen to 900 dumbass scientists, though.

Last week, the U.S. National Academy of Sciences and 10 other leading world bodies expressed the consensus view that "there is now strong evidence that significant global warming is occurring" and that "It is likely that most of the warming in recent decades can be attributed to human activities". And just last week, USA Today editorialized that "not only is the science in, it is also overwhelming".

http://www.worldchanging.com/archives/004469.html
Indeed, it is precisely because the climate crisis is so profound that we need to encourage the American debate on the subject to move on, finally and for good, and start to focusing on how to build a bright green future as quickly as possible. The science, after all, is pretty unequivocal at this point. Indeed, essentially the last remaining credible skeptic, Scientific American columnist Michael Shermer announced this month that, despite his dislike for environmental groups

"Data trump politics, and a convergence of evidence from numerous sources has led me to make a cognitive switch on the subject of anthropogenic climate change. ... Because of the complexity of the problem, environmental skepticism was once tenable. No longer. It is time to flip from skepticism to activism."

CCN posted this series on the scientific evidence that even you can understand,..

Global Warming = Climate Crisis: The Causes of Global Warming

Global Warming = Climate Crisis: The Evidence of Global Warming

Global Warming = Climate Crisis: The Consequences of Global Warming

==========================================================================

Or even read the UN's International Panel on Climate Change Report (2001), the next report will be completed next in Jan. 2007, and the GOP doesn't like it's conclusions. But, I'm more surprised that those college republicans made it to college.

Some facts concerning Global Warming

http://www.crnc.org/index.php?content=beach
http://www.heartland.org/Article.cfm?artId=18971

Bear Population Steady

The Arctic Assessment concludes, "global warming could cause polar bears to go extinct by the end of the century by eroding the sea ice that sustains them." This is misleading, Legates finds, because, as discussed above, Arctic air temperatures were as high as present temperatures in the 1930s and polar bears survived.

According to the World Wildlife Fund, about 20 distinct polar bear populations currently exist, accounting for approximately 22,000 polar bears worldwide. Of those distinct populations only two, representing about 16.4 percent of the total population, are decreasing. At the same time, 10 populations representing approximately 45.4 percent of the total population are stable, and 2 populations representing about 13.6 percent of the total number of polar bears are increasing. The status of the remaining populations is unknown.

"This is nothing more than a poorly designed attempt to implement the Kyoto Protocol through the back door," said Peyton Knight, director of environmental and regulatory affairs at the National Center for Public Policy Research. "You don't list endangered species based on speculative predictions," said Knight; "you list them because there are small numbers of the species and the numbers are in fact dwindling. This is not called the 'someday-might-possibly-become-endangered-if-our-speculative-claims-prove-true' list."

The author obviously is not well informed about polar bears and the survival pressures they
deal with.

The bear populations in the Canadian Arctic are threatened. The pack ice has been returning later and later every year. By the end of the summer the bears, winter fat has been depleted and they need to begin hunting to replenish. Their principle food is seal which live under the pack ice during winter.

The bears can't kill effectively in the water. Seals are too fast. The bears can only effectively kill seals in sufficient numbers to feed themselves and their young by hunting on the ice pack at the seals' breathing holes.

Without the ice pack Polar Bears and their cubs starve.

Timing is the critical issue not the amount of pack ice.

If the ice is late the bears can't make it.

Churchill Manitoba is where the pack ice returns first late September early October. This is where the bear populations are decreasing (note bolded text above). The the decline of this particular bear population is critical because it demonstrates the bears' survival depends on the timing of the winter freeze up not the total amount of pack ice

That's why Bears migrate there every year.

I saw photos of this year's migration. The ice was three weeks late and the bears were very week and in poor condition.

This is just one example where the Anti-Kyoto crowd distort and misrepresent science to suit their political purposes.

I interviewed a number of Northern Native leaders two years ago and the warming trend in the North is real. The Dene and Inuit live there and have long experience with weather patterns and the effect it has on animal populations.

Personally I think Kyoto is flawed because it is filled with loopholes that major polluters like the US and China can use to their own advantage. It is not flawed because of poor science IMO.

I had to return it to the library, but it was good.

I did read that ocean levels are to rise as the polar ice melts, and they are melting at a very fast rate, so most coastal areas are going to disappear..

Damn what is the name of that book?

19. Stupid is as stupid does, right? Ok.
I tried to post before, but something weird happened. My sister and I (swimmers, divers and tanners), had a conversation about 8 yrs. ago how we were tanning at excessive rates.

Our great-great grandmother was Lenni Lenapi (native American) so we tanned ridiculously as children.
We were commenting on how tan we were so early in the season and thought it best to limit our sun exposure (we don't agree on very much). We both have friends and acquaintances who have come down with skin cancer since. OK., so that it probably ozone layer related, which many still deny.

I look at the heat generated from my cars exhaust, it's hot, and there are more and more cars being driven. I look at the heat removed by my central AC unit (just go and feel the heat being removed from this unit, and there are more and more of these units installed) and wonder how can all this heat being thrown into the atmosphere not have some effect!

It is impossible to say that humans are not having some kind of effect on the atmosphere, just our sheer increase in population is having a dramatic effect, it may not be the overwhelming factor, but please tell me, where does that heat go?

The problem with these “student” Republicans is instead of healthy criticism, they make a joke out of a potentially destructive situation.

They wield their ignorance as a battle flag. Republicans are not interested in learning about the nuances and vagaries of real life and real life issues, they just want to attack, attack, attack their political enemy's and their political enemies viewpoints, irrespective of the credibility of those viewpoints.

Republicans are the modern-day “Flat Earth Society” and it’s a damn shame these people actually control the entire planet, its no wonder its going to hell in a handbasket unless you are living in a gated community.
