The Greatest Play In Major League Baseball? Very political
Watch the video. Then decide if this was the greatest play ever and post a reply.

1. Just as those who would burn the flag deserve the right to do so.....
So do those who wish to stop it....

Monday did the right thing by not making it a physical confrontation...

It is not, however, the greatest play in Baseball...

Far from it...

Shouldn't even be on the list...

It ranks with Morgana running out to kiss Pete Rose in Cincinnati....

The unassisted triple play pulled off by Billy Wampungass(sp) of the Cleveland Indians in the 1920 World Series is....

That was just one stunt bested by another....

2. Kind of irritating
I mean. Those douchebags shouldn't have been on the field in the first place...but Greatest Play in Major League Baseball?

There's only one situation which would ever make me burn the American flag, and that's if they made flag burning illegal. If they made it illegal I'd burn a flag on the capitol steps on day one of the new law (as I'm sure thousands of others would).

The flag is just that. A flag. It isn't a holy object. If it represents us and our freedoms, then being allowed to burn that flag should also be a symbol of our freedoms. What does it represent otherwise? I think an American burning an American flag is a sort of dumb symbolic gesture if you care about the country, imho, but you should have the right to do it.

Otherwise we're not free, and then what does the flag stand for?

3. Whoever tried to do that was classless,
but- the greatest play ever?

Whoever would say that isn't a real baseball fan. More of a jingoist, I'd say.

6. Well, perhaps if snatching flags was in the official MLB rulebook...
...it might qualify for the list of greatest plays, but only if the guy dove to snag a line drive, snatched the flag as he scrambled to his feet and proceeded to toss a guy out at second for a triple play. Or something equivalent.

It's just a good thing that he didn't commit an error by running by and missed grabbing the flag and they lit it anyway. Now, THAT would have been embarrassing...

7. I remember that incident
The guy who had the flag was a total idiot and Monday just did what came naturally. In beatiful Wrigley Field no less. Now I am not for an anti flag burning amendent, I just don't see any reason to burn it. I also think that any fan who enters the field of play during a sporting event deserves to be cold cocked. It is just plain stupid to do that.
Now if one really wants to talk about the "Greatest play in baseball", go back to 1947 when Mr. Jackie Robinson took the field with his teammates, the Brooklyn Dodgers. Now that was a great moment. Wish I could have seen it.

8. I agree...and I don't disagree with people burning a flag,
necessarily.

I do disagree with people trying to interrupt a baseball game to do so- and, basically, make the opposition to US policies in our country look foolish.

But, you're from Chicago...Dick Butkis, that's who it was.

Yeah, you wanna talk about nailing people who interrupt a professional sports game? That guy- classic.

Totally agreed, especially about Robinson. Chicago sports.

9. Well, actually, I'm from the great state of Iowa
and I'm not really a Bears fan. But that aside, I still think the would be flag burner was a dumb ass. Nitschke over Butkus btw. Just sayin'.

11. Patriotism has nothing to do with the flag.
Or baseball.

It's the Constitution.

Just once, I'd like to see some Republican draped in the Constitution.

Oh say, can you see....
