What are you doing for the 2006 elections?
During the 2004 elections, I was surprised at the number of opportunities to help win the election. Things like getting on buses to help get out the votes in Wisconsin (Illinois is pretty solid blue, so it made sense for us to go to more of a swing state), and even being part of the number of people needed for phone banking...things I wouldn't really have thought of.

I'd like people here to share what they're doing, especially opportunities that other people might not know about. Even if it's something specific to your local Democratic Party, there may be someone else out there who lives in the same area who could benefit.

I'm planning on posting a similar call every week, and hopefully we'll build up some momentum in getting people involved in 2006.

If you're in Illinois, one place to find opportunities to get involved is Illinois Dem Net: http://www.illinoisdemnet.org

2. What am I doing for the 2006 elections?
Wondering why anyone still believes in the illusion of elected, representative government.

Hope springs eternal.

3. Doing voter registration again.
I liked it in 04 so I figured I would stick with something I was good at. I am concentrating on the 8th congressional district, there is a vulnerable R there, and some local races.

4. 2006 elections? May as well make the best of our LAST elections ever!
I really don't think we're going to have another election after this one, unless you count ballots that let you choose between "Bush: Yes" and "Bush: No"

5. I DON'T WANT ANY MORE PEOPLE SPAMMING THIS THREAD WITH CYNICISM.

Even as it relates to voting machines or voter fraud. There are even organizations you can join to help combat that. But if you're not going to join up and tell us how to fight it, please stay out of this thread. I'd like it to be useful for people and not make them (more) neurotic. I have repeatedly been sick and tired of the tendency for Internet politics sites to be harborages for complaining and vegetating and the purpose of this thread is to combat that. You have hundreds of other open threads in which you can do that.

7. I'm running for office with two others to do so too. We're
the first Democrats running for these county offices for many years. And the Republicans are not happy about it. Not at all. Oh well, they're an unhappy bunch, anyway.

We've decided to do this for a couple of reasons:
1. To give Democrats someone to vote for and to encourage them to stick with the "D"s.
2. To keep some Republicans tied up with their own race so they have less time and money to spend on the Senate race (Harold Ford, Jr. will run against one of the three Republicans). The more we can keep them busy, the less opportunity they have to gang up on one of our Democratic candidates.
3. To get elected or to get enough "D" votes to put serious pressure and the republican cronyism that's corrupting our county.

Anyway, it's surprising how much enthusiasm some of the long-time Democrats have. They've been so beaten down and told over and over again that this is a Republican county. For the time being, it's actually a contest for some of the races!!

So that's what I'm doing.

10. Sorry, then
Because you need to hear it, obviously.

Without free, fair and open elections, the outcome is not in question. republicans will win again.

The consensus from those who have actually undertaken a study of the vote counts from previous elections is that the vote was stolen, by use of the machines.

I would suggest that you get involved in making sure the vote is counted correctly. Because without the vote being counted correctly, everything else is useless.

6. Doing everything in my power to get Santorum out of office.
Getting out the vote, registering people, phone banking etc. I'm not a huge fan of Casey but he'll be way better than the maniac currently holding the junior Senator's position in Pennsylvania.

12. I live in Mass on NH border ..
... so rather than doing nothing I have found a good share of repubs in NH that are worthy of dethroning. I likely will focus my effort on Congressman Bass who is the man in the neighboring district.
I have to admit I have no idea yet who the democrat is but its way early for that kind of footwork.
