My LTTE re: False Iran dress code/yellow arm band for Jews story:
It seems clear now that the exclusive front page story published by the National Post on May 19th claiming that Iran had passed a law requiring Jews to wear yellow arm bands was false. To their credit, the National Post followed up that story on May 20th citing several independent experts, including a Jewish member of the Iranian Parliament, who all say no such law was passed. The correction seemed half-hearted though. An apology and retraction is hopefully forthcoming if the story is not true. Foreign newspapers have picked up this false story from the National Post and some haven't put it down in spite of the new evidence. Besides being damaging to foreign relation efforts and media credibility this is embarrassing for Canada.

The National Post is totally rightwing anti-Liberal. It's ownership bought it for political purposes.

I hope this will fry them good.

If you check another ignorant rightwing rag today - The Jerusalen Post - they have a story out since this story crumbled with the headline "New Iranian law to require Jews to wear yellow band".
It's bizarre, because within the story they provide all the evidence to the contrary, and then do an interesting two-step to rationalize their claim. See it here:

In the last hour they've come up with ANOTHER story (just 12 hours since this last one) stating that the new law is only concerning womans clothing, and laying the blame squarely at the feet of Canadas newspaper "National Post" (National Disgrace more like it:

On Friday, a Canadian newspaper, The National Post, quoting Iranian exiles, said the law would force Jews, Christians and other religious minorities to wear special patches of colored cloth to distinguish them from Muslims.

What a mess. This is worse than TruthOut, IMO (IF Rove wasn't indicted on May 12!)

1. Good
I was very alarmed when I read about this and posted an article regarding it yesterday. I am very glad to hear they are not doing this. It was my own fault, I should have waited for more reputable evidence.

2. Don't blame yourself!
It is purely the fault of the National Post and their agenda-driven reporter.

3. we ALL have to be very careful about ANY stories about countries

that might be potential targets of aggression.

If we think back over the many, many years, whether the target or potential targets were Chile, Nicaragua, Iraq, Iran or practically anyone who had run afoul of the centers of power in Washington, D.C. all kinds of negative stories suddenly started appearing in the media; much of it; probably most of it was completely nonfactual nonsense.

When cooking up stories of phantom threats were not quite good enough; the stories move on to the impression that it would be in the interest; their own best interest of the people of potential target nations if we would just unleash slaughter and carnage on the citizenry.

4. Did you notice that with their new article on this, they have
a picture of someone holding up the cloth Star of David worn during WWII? They are still trying to sell the crap but are using the pictures to do it.

6. The war mongers speak up
Notice how the war mongers speak up without checking the validity of the report. My little nerdy, worm of a Prime Minister - Howard couldn't wait to stick the boot in to Iran. Unfortunately, Bush may be in for a disappointment if he expects Australia to follow him into Iran. We don't have any soldiers left. No one wants to enlist anymore (I wonder why). Maybe Howard might like to send his sons to help Bush out. Put them in the front line., after all Howard did have his son Richard help Bush out in his last election campaign
