4. OMG. Very sick! Very twisted!
snip of WSJ piece:
Certainly since Vietnam, America has increasingly practiced a policy of minimalism and restraint in war. And now this unacknowledged policy, which always makes a space for the enemy, has us in another long and rather passionless war against a weak enemy.

The collapse of white supremacy--and the resulting white guilt--introduced a new mechanism of power into the world: stigmatization with the evil of the Western past.
================
Ah, a-bombs and the good old days. Dang us all to hell with our shockingly awesome restraint :eyes:

"America has increasingly practiced a policy of minimalism and restraint in war." Yeah. Fallujah, white phosphorus, Abu Ghraib, Gitmo, Eastern European torture camps, etc. Mighty white of us, indeed.

7. Besides the obvious psychosis
How much more raw power does the guy want to use beyond "shock and awe" and Fallujah.

And he's an educated guy connected to one of our premiere institutes. No wonder this country is so fucked up.

12. This should explain to allot of people,
why republicans are so against immigration with Mexico legal or illegal. The immigration problem should really split the republican party, they want cheap labor for their corporate kings, but don't like the idea of having dark skinned people coming to this country.

What a pickle they must be in, if it wasn't so serious for illegal immigrants it may be funny. But i can't manage a laugh, when it effects so many poor people.

15. Interview with the op-ed piece's author
http://www.taemag.com/issues/articleid.19044/article_detail.asp

(I've also added this link to the original blog post).

Shelby Steele, whose father was black and his mother white, has many provocative things to say about race, such as:

I think New Orleans shamed black America. I was in Europe when it happened, and we saw all these images of deep intractable poverty. For generation after generation, New Orleans was full of human despair and backwardness. The flood just brought to the surface what had been there for so long, so we could see it on TV every night. And black America was truly shamed -- just ask blacks and they'll tell you.

17. The U.S. murdered as many as 2 million Southeast Asians
dropped more tons of bombs on South Vietnam than all the tonnage of all the combatants in WW2 and deforested half the country with Agent Orange.

Sounds like a pretty serious attempt to "win" to me.

And why *do* you hate America?

"If we'd just blown up more shit, we coulda won, but we were just too nice to do it" excuse for losing another ill fated colonialist adventure.

Nothing more. Nothing less.

20. Yeah, we should be just like the British in India, kill 45 million darkies
Edited on Wed May-03-06 11:02 AM by Muddy Waters Guitar
We're just not ruthless enough to go in and crack some darkie skulls like the British were. What are we thinking? We should have just taken a page from those Brits in their pith helmets, killers of 45 million people in India alone, and then of course there's the matter of all those annoying aboriginal people in Oz and New Zealand, the tens of millions of black slaves on British sugar plantations and-- oh, now, durnit, I'm gettin' impolite with all those inconvenient historical facts, now, shame on me.

Yeah, those Brits, now they knew how to fight wars against inferior brown-skinned untermensch-- er, "non-white people desperately needing of Anglo-Saxon civilizing." Yeah, just kill tens of millions of them, that'll teach 'em. Go and rape the women, hang some men, women and kids from tree branches to set an example, put some kids in front of firing squads like those dern uppity Hindus back in India at Amritsar that the Brits taught a lesson to when they raked them with gunfire in 1919.

All we's gotta do, is just go into Iraq with guns blazin' and do us a little massacre of those darkie towelheads to teach 'em not to get uppity with us superior white 'Mercans and their Uncle Tom bootlickers like me, Mr. Shelby Steele. That'll teach 'em. I mean, it's not like this would inspire generations of hatred and a bloodthirsty desire for revenge among other towelhead darkies, right? I mean, those darkies are intrinsically stupid, all stupid and stuff in the face of our superior White 'Merikenness, they wouldn't actually be able to form the concept of revenge. And since the towelhead darky sand n***ers aren't an intelligent species, they can't put things together to figure out what's goin' on. Right? (OK, WSJ editors, have I kissed enough White racist jingoistic ass, yet? Can I take a lunch break? Shoo, this is tiring.)

<snarking off>

What an idiot. If anything, the *one* (and just about only one) positive thing I can say about the Iraq War, or things like the Kosovo intervention in '99, is that we've thus far had the, um, "consideration" not to bomb the entire country to rubble. Which is sort of like a detective complimenting a serial killer for stabbing his victims only 9 rather than 10 times. I wish the WSJ would just stick to business advice and stay out of giving political advice. Hard to put a number on the damage they've done thus far.
