Congress considering PERMANENT ISP snooping
Hello BIG BROTHER:

I just read this on cNet news:

It didn't take long for the idea of forcing Internet providers to retain records of their users' activities to gain traction in the U.S. Congress.

Last week, Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, a Republican, gave a speech saying that data retention by Internet service providers is an "issue that must be addressed." Child pornography investigations have been "hampered" because data may be routinely deleted, Gonzales warned.

Seems a DEM from Colorado is behind this so I fired off this little missive:

Dear Congresswoman,

Although I have not lived in my home state for many years now I still have friends and relatives there. I still consider Colorado to be my home.

I'm also (now, thanks to Bush) a registered Democrat.

Imagine my surprise to find you are sponsoring a bill that would REQUIRE ISP's to basically spy on their customers for the US government.

Using the smoke screen of "child pornography" does not mitigate the onerous aspects of this bill.

I am appalled that you, or anyone else, would even consider mandating what is basically an Orwellian tactic. With Bush using the NSA to spy on American citizens (illegally, I might add), Federal requirements for a "real ID" and now this, we might as well cash it in and call a pig a pig.

We are now living in a police state. Thanks for your support.
