No Gas in NY City, reported by CNN?
I'm not in front of a television, But i just received a phone call from a friend and he informed me that a barrel of oil was selling for over $75.00. He also mentioned that some gas stationed in NY City were out of gas.

Anyone have any information on this report? If the part about gas stations in NY City being out of gas, and it not a normal reason, then we may have a problem.

1. Stations in the eastern part of several mid Atlantic states reported
being out of gas yesterday. Some stations out west where I am are reporting short supplies.

I guess refiners don't like to hear us complaining, so they're cutting back deliveries to teach us all a lesson.

I learned that lesson back in the 70s. My other car is an electric moped.

ethanol version as legally required once they ran out of the other gas AND they have to clean out the tanks, lines, etc. before the new gas can go in.

Obviously, my untechnical explanation of what I've heard on TeeVee the past couple of days.

"The shortages were not expected to be serious however and were blamed on seasonal changes in gasoline formulas."

Gasoline soars amid reported shortages
But experts say any disruptions are bound to be small and short as the industry transitions from winter to summer gas.

-snip-
The oil industry said problems aren't related to an actual shortage but are being caused from a switch over from winter to summer gas, which is cleaner burning.

Terminals need to nearly empty their tanks to accept supplies of summer gas, which will arrive by May 1, said the American Petroleum Institute's Al Mannato.

Mannato said this switch and the accompanying spot shortages happen every year, "but crude prices are way up, gasoline is way up, so people are watching more this year."

He also said a switch from the gasoline additive MTBE, which has been found to contaminate ground water, to ethanol could be compounding the problem.

Problems with making the switch to ethanol were foreseen.
