My repub sister said today
that she was wrong about Bush. The immigration issue was what opened her eyes. Then she started talking about Clinton selling secrets to China. What is a good response?

1. I heard the exact same thing last night, it's all Clinton's
fault because he started the ball rolling selling secrets to China.
Who are these people listening to?

14. Here it is!
Chinese Espionage Was a Reagan-Bush Scandal

It was on Flush's show apparently...
snip>
Wen Ho Lee first came to the FBI’s attention in 1982 when he called another scientist who was under investigation for espionage, according to the Times chronology. But Lee's contacts with China -- along with trips there by other U.S. nuclear scientists -- increased in the mid-1980s as relations warmed between Washington and Beijing.

In March 1985, Lee was seen talking with Chinese scientists during a scientific conference in Hilton Head, S.C. The next year, with approval of Los Alamos, Lee and another scientist attended a conference in Beijing. In 1988, Wen Ho Lee attended another conference in Beijing.

“On Sept. 25, 1992, a nuclear blast shook China’s western desert,” the Times wrote. “From spies and electronic surveillance, American intelligence officials determined that the test was a breakthrough in China’s long quest to match American technology for smaller, more sophisticated hydrogen bombs.”

15. Thank you, acmejack! I'm sending this to him ASAP!
It's funny, isn't it? The letters in Reagan-Bush bear little resemblance to the letters in Clinton.
And this guy told me he likes 'Flush', so no doubt that's where it came from!

2. I cannot fathom females supporting that Monkey
Talk about voting against your interests.

The best response is no response. You can't talk sense into someone who just cannot fathom the obvious. Ask her if she's read any good books lately...

8. Since we are having conversations again
I plan on giving her the books that I read, since she loves to read. She usually reads end times kind of stuff. Our political fights got so bad, that the last fight we had before I stopped talking to her, she told me that I looked like I have AIDs because I had a acne cyst on my face. She is really Ann Coulter like mean. I told her today that I never told her to move to another country when she criticized Clinton. She told me numerous times to move to Canada if I had something bad to say about Bush.

13. Re: voting against her interests
She is against abortion, and considers it murder. She knows that I had an abortion when I was 16 yo, but nevertheless says a bunch of things in front of me that she knows will hurt me. I don't regret my abortion, although it hasn't been easy but I feel like I made the right decision.

19. Why not?
If you're referring to abortion, the number of women who are anti-abortion is only a couple of percent lower than the number of men.

20. No, I am referring to the entire spectrum of issues
Of which abortion is only one. There's equal pay for equal work, there's things like cutting domestic violence funding out of the budget, there's slashing aid to women, infants and children, and, there's that whole fundy religious patina that enshrouds him...we're just a few GOP terms away from "A woman's place is in the home--by LAW" if they are allowed to continue unchecked.

5. Yes, who do you think is paying for Bush's record deficits?
China is indeed buying the USA, buying up our reckless debt.

There's a message thread somewhere on DU that I started asking about the Gyro technology Clinton sold to the Chinese. My freeper family throw that at me quite a bit. "Clinton started it all with that Gyro thing..."

But I've heard that the secret technology that scans containers, which is being done by a Hong Kong company, has also been given to the Chinese, so their fearless leader :eyes: George Bush is doing the same thing, only we all know now, that and much, much worse.

The fact is, if China became an enemy of the United States, they could cripple our dollar and our economy in very short order. Bush has made the United States more vulnerable than ever before. We're more vulnerable now than we were on September 10, 2001. So much for being tough on terror.

Edit: typo.

21. And remind her of that fighter jet that was downed by the Chinese pilot
and Beijing refused to give it back - that was EARLY on bush's watch, the first scandal. They kept it long enough to go over it with a fine-tooth comb before finally relinquishing it to the US again. Wonder what-all they found while they were at it?

IMO, best immediate response: I love you Sis and I'm so glad to welcome you into The Light.

Then slowly you can educate her on the rest of the story. :hi:

7. Clinton didn't sell our children's and grandchildren's debt to China.
The value of secrets dissipate with time, debt gets bigger and lasts longer.

Without knowing the specifics of the secrets (allegedly) sold, who did more damage?

10. I saw another post yesterday about Slippery Bill Clinton selling
technology to the Chinese, they actually spied on the Americans to get the technology. No surprises it was a DoD Republican that passed the secrets on for money.

The story is just plain false but thats never stopped the RW shills in the past. When they are clearly wrong they just smear with lies. They have nothing on you they make it up.

11. wait a minute - Clinton 'selling' secrets
2 China is why she took a big swig of kool-aid, voted against her own interests (unless she is a CEO of an oil company or her last name is walton or scaife) and cast her lot for chuckle-nuts?

That makes no sense at all. None! Does she know Clinton wasn't even his opponent?

and ask her what she thinks about THAT. Ask her is she's comfortable with China woning so much of our debt, just so rich Republicans can have their tax cuts and run their illegal wars. Don't even dignify her question by answering about Clinton.

18. I wish my repub sister would come to her senses...
...even a little, but she has been sucked into the whirlpool like nobody I know. It's really disheartening. But she is very self-centered and loves her money, so it suits her well, I guess. It's a shame that she doesn't seem to give much consideration to her seven young nieces and nephews (with another due any day) and what kind of a world they will live in and what kind of opportunities they will have.

Peace....
