Sean Penn likes to 'violate' an Ann Coulter doll
I knew there was a reason I liked Sean Penn. LOL

http://contactmusic.com/new/xmlfeed.nsf/mndwebpages/penn%20has%20torture%20doll_27_03_2006

Hollywood activist SEAN PENN has a plastic doll of conservative US columnist ANN COULTER that he likes to abuse when angry. The Oscar-winner actor has hated Coulter ever since she blacklisted his director father LEO PENN in her book TREASON. And he takes out his frustrations with Coulter, who is a best-selling author, lawyer and television pundit, on the Barble-like doll. In an interview with The New Yorker magazine, Penn reveals, "We violate her. There are cigarette burns in some funny places. She's a pure snake-oil salesman. She doesn't believe a word she says."

23. I could believe in voodoo as well. The only problem is
I don't think Anthrax Annie would feel any pain if you were plunging needles into the doll or burning it with cigarettes. I think she is void of emotion and numb to pain.

18. Because *really* burning her with cigarettes in "funny places"
would be just that much funnier, wouldn't it?

:eyes:

25. Oh get off your high horse
Mann Coulter has earned every bit of scorn we heap on her. I would not shed a tear if she were to burn herself with her cigarettes. Are you apologizing for her now?

7. Penn is one of my favoriate actors
but I have to admit I giggled at the picture of him bailing his boat with a red cup. It was the French beret and the little mustache that did me in.

And, yeah, I know he got a bad rap and there was more to the story. But I thought it was funny during a decidedly not-funny week. Best of all, he handled it like a good sport.

You know how hard a 48 hour waiting period for an abortion is on a blow-up doll?

10. Disturbing
I know that hating Ann is a given.

However, doesn't anyone find this disturbing? Especially considering the context of domestic violence against women in our society?

Thought: suppose a conservative said a similar thing about a prominent liberal woman?

the worst kinds of violence. real violence.

penn is being amusing and nothing more.

i can't even belive you suggested that -- read more about coulter and then tell me you think this was disturbing.

puhleez -- get a grip.

15. Agreed
Yes it's just a doll, and yes Coulter is absolutely horrible.

I'm not a fan of playing P.C. police, but I think "violating" is an offensive choice of words, and it doesn't ennoble us to rally behind Penn here.

24. It's a matter of personal taste...
Personally, I agree with the poster who asked what we'd think if we'd heard a Rethug making such a comment. We'd probably jump all over him, because we'd see it as a reflection of his attitude toward women.

Anyway, we're in a free-speech zone (for the time-being), so rock on.

19. agreed....it's creepy and feels wrong
might be my age...but I just don't think you advocate this sort of thing, regardless who the female is. Our human rights principles aren't up for grabs and are NOT dependant on who is deserved of them. There are sickos out there who really want to do this sort of thing to live women. As much as I admire Penn as an actor and activist....this is not right.

20. Yes I do
Sounds to me like all the same bullshit just from the other side. "We don't like what you have to say so we're going to enjoy vilifying and violating 'you'."

Celebrating the idea of "violating" those we disagree with is the first step to making it acceptable.

Not to mention the implied gender issue at stake here: women we don't agree with deserve to be violated.

Sort of scary, but better than violating a real person.

16. Ha, ha! Go, Sean!
I don't find this offensive because he is mad at her opinions and her hate speech, and for what she did to his father. If she were a man and he smacked the doll around it would be funny also.
