"Reality" Politics -- Carville and Matalin to Do Reality Show
Carville and Matalin to advise Lifetime on 'Election'

March 20, 2006

Many fans of Reese Witherspoon first noticed the newly crowned Oscar winner when she starred in "Election" -- playing a driven high school student running for student body president in the acclaimed film, produced by Chicago native Albert Berger. Now veteran (and married) political operatives James Carville and Mary Matalin have signed on to counsel real candidates for high school prez in a new reality show for Lifetime TV, also titled "Election."

Carville, of course, first found fame as a high-profile adviser to President Clinton, while his wife has long been a top conservative "talking head" and counselor to both Bush White Houses and Vice President Dick Cheney.

According to Time magazine, Carville and Matalin will advise their respective candidates at a Washington, D.C.-area school. "The real trick with any 61-year-old dealing with any 16-year-old is to get them to listen to a word you say. I'm remarkably unsuccessful with my own," says Carville.

1. Their best days are beyond them.
They are both becoming caricatures of themselves.

2. Oh great - more dumbing down of the American electorate by corporate media
I wish Dems would run showcasing RESPECT for the public by refusing to give soundbite answers because there is no solution to be found in soundbites.

Make that the theme for all Dem campaigns - We have SOLUTIONS not soundbites. Vote solutions not soundbites.

3. Again???????? When they were on Clooney's "K Street" they
essentially played themselves.

They are short of cash, I'm thinking, and have been ever since that restaurant they bought went bust. It seems as though they didn't plan for the future as well as they should have, or they don't know how to rein in their lifestyle, or something....

4. Gross
just who will this appeal to? Will liberals watch James Carville be pussy whipped by that witch he's married to? On second thought, conservatives might get a kick out of that.

5. Nothing I want to watch more than these 2 tired hacks
in any venue. They make "Meet the Whore" even worse than normal when they make one of their all too frequent visits. Their 15 minutes has long past as has the 15 minutes of the reality format. Sounds like a sure bet for a very short run.

6. That show will end suddenly when Matalin is indicted.
Face it. All Republicans get indicted eventually.

7. May this one be cancelled as fast a Martha Stewart's show was...
Yuck...I just can't imagine anyone really caring what either of these two people have to say. I can't understand Carville, he speaks too fast, and Matalin, well...decorum prevents me from saying what I REALLY think about her!

10. Some shows ought to be cancelled before they're filmed.
This is one of them.

12. This is one couple I will not be watching. What candidates are they going
to be promoting and hopefully it is not going to turn into free political air time for "their candidates".

13. High School candidates for class president
sort of like "Election" with Reese Witherspoon (as mentioned in the OP) but pathetic and not funny.
