Ed Rollins, campaign manager for Ronald Reagan’s election team in 1980 and 1984, joined the bandwagon of Republicans who are openly criticizing the Bush Administration yesterday on CNN’s Lou Dobbs Tonight:

“You know, the reality is, they’ve lost their touch … week it’s something that just reinforces the message that these guys don’t know what they’re doing. They’re incompetent. I mean, we’re almost to the point, where we’re going to look fondly back on Jimmy Carter’s administration. And I say that with great sadness as a Republican. But it’s week after week after week that they just can’t seem to find their way. Normally a foreign trip gives you something. You go there, but if we’re walking back with mangoes, and they’re getting nuclear rods, that’s not a very good swap.”

Here are Rollins’ bona fides:

He directed the most successful Presidential campaign in the history of the United States, serving as Ronald Reagan’s 1984 National Campaign Director… Mr. Rollins served in the administrations of Presidents Nixon, Ford, and Reagan, joining the Reagan administration as one of the President’s top advisors in the role of Assistant to the President for Political and Governmental Affairs.

2. I listened to that show. Rowlins isn't pulling any punches.

He also mentioned that it's something new EVERY WEEK! The other guy on that panel said, and each week gets worse!

At the end of the show, Lou asked "Is it time we all hope for gridlock?" Nobody on his panel disagreed either!

You're either loyal or you're disloyal. You're either an isolationist or you're an internationalist. But the bottom line is other countries aren't playing by the same rules. And that's ...

ROLLINS: This Congress is going to pay a heavy price and they are running for the desks.

ROLLINS: And that tragedy is just beginning. Cunningham going to jail today, you know, who in other times would have been shot for treason, it just the beginning. There is three or four major investigations going on of corruption.

And it's going to -- there's so many U.S. attorneys looking at this thing that by the middle of this summer, there's going to be 10 or 15 Congressmen, at least, that are going to be under very serious scrutiny and ...

3. I was thinking the same thing the other day, but I didn't write it down

because I didn't want to offend Jimmy Carter since Bush's term is so, so much worse than Jimmy's. But I thought, Bush was the Republican's Jimmy Carter. However, you almost have to add the incompetence of Gordon Liddy and the malicious loyalty of Oliver North to set the right stage.

6. I agree except I wanted to bitchslap Klein for this usual drivel

when he made some comment about what stiffs the Dems ran in 2000 and 2004. Couldn't find in the transcript - must be in what is labeled crosstalk, but I know I saw the comment. I wanted to scream at Klein it was the f'in media like him who kept telling people that Gore and Kerry were stiffs and that * was the guy you wanted to have a beer and go fishing with.

But this was in there.

KLEIN: Well, it's really calling into question a lifetime of covering politics for me. I always thought that the Democrats were mortally incompetent. These guys are worse than I've ever seen from the Democrats.
