Are we willing to follow President Kerry’s lead on Port Deal strategy?
Edited on Tue Feb-28-06 02:57 PM by NoMercy
Kerry’s strategy on Dubai deal will be on display today at the Commerce Committee hearing. Are we willing to follow his lead?

So far he has called for “full disclosure” and has questioned “the judgment and competence of the administration officials” in pushing through the deal without a real security review.

Like Carter (who says the deal is probably fine) and Wesley Clark (who questions the Bush regime review process but makes no judgment on the deal) Kerry has been measured in his comments on the deal despite the rhetorical firestorm surrounding the issue from all sides.

Today Kerry will be forced to reveal more of his strategy. Will it be:

1. Forcefully seek to block the deal as a National Security threat?
2. Launch a rhetorical attack against the deal, without trying to block it?
3. Focus on Admin incompetence and corruption but let Republicans fight among themselves as the party goes down as the deal goes through.

I, for one, am willing to follow Kerry’s lead on this issue, whatever his strategy is.

focused on Snow last Tuesday. Then all the reports came out that Bush, Snow, Chertoff hadn't known anything about the deal - maybe hoping Kerry couldn't get their notes or emails for the hearings.

Kerry's actual goal is open government re ALL deals - that has been an objective of his since he first took office in 85.

6. Deal likely to be problem for Repub congress regardless of merits of deal
Question is really how the democratic congress should best position to make sure
the deal does maximum damage to the republicans while pursuing an honest
investigation and treatment of the feal security issues raised by the DP World deal.

5. I wiuld say most of the above, I don't see force as outlined as being
necessary. I trust Kerry's judgement on this matter. He spoke about port and container security during the election.
