6. I read a week or so ago
that Clark received only one "larger" gift from one of the media corporations, for the whopping amount of $1,000.

Anyway - where can I check on that $70,000 for Kerry given by Murdoch's Media Monsters? Receiving that much from that ogre (and not returning it) is a major demerit, IMO.

13. Very untrue
There are corporate PAC's, 527's, and a number of other ways. Kerry takes money from labor and environmental lobbyists. Oh no! Now they're going to expect that the protects workers and the environment!

Egads, aiyeeee-e-e-e-e!

16. It's not for just this campaign...
it's over his entire career, and I believe his career in politics predates campaign financing law and the $2000 limit.

3. It's a website name
If you can't give the URL for a website just because it happens to "distort" the candidate's names, we are in some serious shit here.

8. Your numbers are misleading
Edited on Sat Jan-31-04 06:58 PM by sangha
They don't say if they are lifetime totals, or this year. They also don't indicate if it was the corporation named who donated the money (hint: It wasn't) or if it were individuals who work at the named corporation.

21. Not really, no
If you want this to be accurate - and I am a big fan of full disclosure - each contributor should have, after the contribution total, the span of time over which the contributions were received.

For example, Mintz Levin is listed as having given $223,996. Divided by 20 years, that comes to $11,199.80 per year. The way you have it now, it looks like Mintz gave Kerry 200 grand yesterday.

PS, and just for the record, Mintz, Levin and Foley, Hoag are two very liberal law firms here in Boston. Mintz hosted a Harshbarger get-together in 2000 when he was running out here that I went to. Harshbarger went on, of course, to head Common Cause. These two firms are by no means fortresses of evil.

17. If this is what you're reaching for...
If you have to reach for conspiracy theories like this to take a swipe at John Kerry, we might as well nominate him. "Skull and Bones"... who cares?
