1. When I was a child, I was dragged to bullfights.
What a horror., Sunday mass and then off to the arena

I ALWAYS rooted for the bull, and would cover my eyes the whole time.

One day a bull did jump the barricade and rampaged through the stands just like that Pajarito (the bull yesterday) did. neither "won" in the end, but It was a bit of poetic justice in action to watch all those bloodthirsty fans scrambling to get away from that bull all those years ago and yesterday..

9. I know what you mean...I saw a bullfight in Pamplona Spain
..backpacked through Europe when I was a teenager..
saw the running of the bulls in Pamplona and went to
a bullfight...the bullfight was really hard to watch..
I felt so bad for the bulls, it was brutal.

There's something about that bovine that I like. A statue somewhere?
Did you see him just walk up that fence , and start to kick ass?

Sorry. But I'm siding with the bull on this one.

16. Yes, I do believe it was the paying crowd and bull "fighter" that
attacked first.

10. This is why I don't see Bull Riding as bad
To a rodeo bull the rider is comparable to me wearing a 15# backpack. The rider ties himself on the bull to give himself any chance at all and the only thing that he can touch the bull with (besides his butt) are a pair of blunted spurs. The bulls lead a charmed life. Only the best treatment on the road during rodeo season (full feed, water, constant supervision) and look forward to a retirement at stud. A lot of rodeo bulls just stop bucking as soon as the rider is thrown and then walk calmly off like it was no big deal. In every way the bull has the advantage and it seems there are more good bulls year by year than there are good cowboys.

Bullfighting? I never had a hankering to see one. Now Bull Riding the odds are much more slanted to the animal.

13. You seem to have overlooked the strap with nails or glass in it,
Edited on Tue Jan-31-06 01:27 AM by LeftyMom
and the electrical shocks, usually delivered to the anus or genitals, that it takes to get those generally placid beasts to buck the way they do.

If that's a charmed life, you and I must have a very different definition.

17. How many rodeos have you been to?
Have you seen this in person? I on the other hand have been to many rodeos and what you describe is fiction. Rodeo bulls don't need that to buck a puny little rider off. They're uhh... BULLS!

11. I saw the clip on KO
Edited on Tue Jan-31-06 01:28 AM by renate
It was pretty impressive, actually. That bull was really light on his feet--he just FLEW up into the stands.

I'm glad nobody died, even if they were a bunch of sickos getting off on watching an animal be tortured. Karma doesn't always have to be instant to be effective.

on edit: after reading #13, I realize I should have said I'm glad no humans died. I forgot they actually kill the bull in bullfights (SICK SICK SICK SICK SICK), and I guess they made sure to do it this time.
What could possibly be fun, for a mentally healthy person, in seeing an animal treated like this and then KILLED?

14. Olbermann showed it tonight....
...7 people injured, none life threatening....but he was rooting for the bull too. I felt so bad for that bull, what a horrible and unnecessary bloodsport.
