Bush support down to 42 percent in poll

U.S. President George Bush has 42 percent of popular support and a 56-percent disapproval rating in an ABC News/Washington Post poll published Monday.
The rating is the worst for a president entering his sixth year in office since the Watergate scandal downed Richard Nixon and reflects war fatigue, persistent discontent on the economy, ethics concerns and rising interest in Democratic alternatives in a midterm election year, ABC reported.
Bush's overall approval rating is 10 points lower than a year ago.
On Iraq, 55 percent of respondents say the war was not worth fighting and 60 percent disapprove of how Bush is handling it. Six-in-10 don't think Bush understands their problems, and 53 percent don't see him as honest and trustworthy.
The poll was conducted by telephone Jan. 23-26 among a random national sample of 1,002 adults, and has a 3-point error margin.

3. Whew - I Thought I Was In A Coma Or Something - 6 Term President....

I didn't want to put on the cable news. I was afraid to open a newspaper. I was afraid to look outside my house for fear that the thought police would be stationed on my block.

Then I read your post and it said 6th year in office.

What a relief. Only 2 to go.

5. What I find interesting...

is how the Washington Post is downplaying the 42% approval. Last month, it was front page news that * has rebounded to 46%. So much for the 'rebound'. Even the title of the article "*'s Midterm Challenge" would not give a clue that this is about the latest poll results, which are dismal.

6. Laying the groundwork for a post-SOTU "rebound"???

With tinfoil wrapping my skull, I could wonder if approval-polling is given some negative windage in order that we read corporate media headlines next week about how his approval ratings went up after the SOTU. (Let's all wave our little flags, kids.)

That this abomination of a cabal gets anything more than a 10% approval rating (from the clueless and amoral) is but a dirge for democracy in this nation.
