This fight, "debate", whatever you want to call it, has gone on, is going on, and will go on. And on, and on, and on, and on, and on. Each and every time, power pushes the envelope, picking off just a little bit more power for itself. Laws are passed, then broken. More debate, more chiping of power for power, more laws passed. Those are broken yet again...

Pretty much what the Earth does; spinning around, never getting anywhere, only to eventually die out. However, before that happens, the sun will expand its power, and engulf this little planet. Then the whole thing will collapse.
