Breaking News.........Salt Lake City Mayor to Endorse Dean
Nothing official yet, but Salt Lake City mayor Rocky Anderson will hold a press conference next week offering his endorsement to Howard Dean. I just got an update from Peter Carroon, who lives in Salt Lake City and is also Howard's first cousin!

I know it's not a major endorsement, but I love Rocky and am glad he's on the Dean train!

Also, two Salt Lake County council members will endorse Dean next week too. Not sure who tho. I do know two others have endorsed Kerry. Oh and the chair of the Salt Lake County Democratic Party will also be endorsing.

1. So why do people think Dean is the Anti-DLC/Anti-Establishment
candidate? Rocky Anderson is a big Clinton-supporter

12. I don't know what Rocky you're talkin about....
Are we talking about the same Rocky Anderson that wanted to leave the Democratic Party because it turned way far to the right under Clinton? I've had a many of talks with Rocky and my belief is that he's as liberal as they come. When he ran for congress in 1996, he was shot down because of his ultra liberal views. Hell, Rocky's stance is WAY more liberal than Dean. I do believe it was USA Today that called him the most liberal mayor of any major United States city. ;-)

5. How many centrists live in Taxachussetts?
And why do so many think that uber-liberal Kerry will play across the nation? Democrats will vote for him, but all those Reagan Democrats will become Bush Democrats if Kerry is the nominee. Those Democrats might not vote for Bush, but they won't vote for Kerry either...they'll just stay home because no one is inspired by a Democratic Bob Dole.

17. We have a Republican governor
We also have progressive social programs and have "wicked pissa" public schools. So bash us all you want, you know you're just jealous.

10. Seconded!

What good does this do?

I can tell you what bad it does - it puts your candidate in an extremely poor light, and makes some of us who think of him as our #2 choice begin to think about reconsidering.

You know the old saying - with friends like you...

13. Majority of Salt Lake City is Democratic.
We've elected a Democrat as mayor for close to 30 years now. So, they've got a voice in Salt Lake.

9. Utah has a Democratic House Rep. Also
Utah is quite conservative in the rural areas, like most states...and the religious factor causes an overall right-lean to the state's politics, yet there are some Democrats who win in Utah because the state hasn't always been so Republican in it's history.

Also, the Utah Primary will be held Feb 24. They get one of the early dates.

15. Dae, we've had a Democrat as mayor for close to 30 years now.
The last Republican mayor was WAY back in the 1070s. It's become a long standing joke in the state of Utah that they'll never have a Republican mayor in the capital city again. They've basically written off the office. In fact in last November's election the two candidates running (Rocky and Frank Pignanelli) were both Democrats.
