Is there an endorsement that would matter to you?
I think we all agree that most endorsements don't mean much to us--as in they are not going to influence our votes.

Is there anyone out there that, if they endorsed a candidate, it would influence your vote? Anyone you respect that much that their endorsement of a candidate would mean something to you? And if so, who? Nader? Clinton? etc.

1. The only one that really mattered to me
Was Gore, and Dean already got it.

Gore accepted the role of continuing to lead the party in a proactive fashion.

19. endorsement from someone who is really smart, politically speaking
like Bill Clinton might influence me but elected politicians from the south who will have to run with the nominee in 04...now that might mean something to me.

21. Bingo. You said it.

Al Gore was elected President in 2000. His endorsement
passes the mantle of that outrage onto the shoulders of
the angry Doctor.

"I want my country back!!!"

3. He would seem to be behind Clark, but has he made it official?
That would be a VERY big endorsement.

But I've seen no indication that he's backing anyone, frankly.

8. Clinton would probably be able to work with most of the candidates
even Dean. I don't know of any who would reject his endorsement.

Most likely he'll wait for the nominee to be chosen and then help out to the extent the candidate wants him to.

We'll see.

27. don't think it's official
It seems some may believe it's more beneficial for Clinton, as a former president to be officially "above it all," but he seems pretty obviously to be leaning toward Clark.

16. He is too much of a right-wing"flame bait"
as he could damage the candidate with baggage. I can see it now, Monica video's day and night and that awful pic, "I did not have sexual relations with that women". Then comes Linda Tripp, Lucy, and a trail of negatives attached to the endorsed democrat.

will help Kerry or Clark.

ego's will win out and they will endorse too late to make a difference.

11. Can't think of any.
And I don't know what the big deal about endorsements is anyway.

Most of the time, the endorser is the one who is looking to get something out of it. Publicity, favors, fundraising... whatever.

Our Governor endorsing Dean is an interesting case. McG is one of the more despised governors in our history, so what's the point of accepting his endorsement?

Well, NJ has an enormous amount of money, and is a key to both parties' fundraising. Everyone wants Joisey money and the governor's endorsment guarantees a lot of it. McG needs a leg up with his popularity, and set Dean up with one of the state's top fundraisers.

Why Dean? Dean's supporters aren't McG supporters, and aren't machine Dems so it might buy him some more badly needed support. Whether or not Dean is the best choice as candidate is way down on the list of reasons for choosing him, and it all boils down to what's best for McG.

All politics is local, remember...

(and it ain't pretty)

And the Gore endorsement is the one that meant the most to me. I would still be backing him strongly if he hadn't dropped out.

13. So most endorsements do influence your vote?
In my OP I said that we agree that MOST endorsements don't mean much as far as influencing our votes. So, by saying you don't agree... you mean that most endorsements DO influence your vote? That's surprising to me. I figured maybe one or two, but not most.

22. Bill Clinton, Bob Graham,
I think Clinton is for Clark.

I believe Graham is positioning himself for the VP slot. If it looks as thought Dean will bypass him, I see Graham endorsing Clark as well.

24. I'd say MR. ED, or Flipper
might have some bearing on where I will place my support.
I would like to know what Stanley Marsh's deceased pig, Minnesota Fats woud say.
Rumor has it he was a good judge of character.

Barring that, maybe Gore Videl.
