The People Have Turned the Ship Around
I have been sick to my stomach ever since GR posted the idiomstudio clip of Dean's apre Iowa speech. Now I am feeling MUCH better.
Here is the story, from Good Morning America!

http://abclocal.go.com/wabc/news/wabc_2004vote_012904dean.html

Diane Sawyer has apologized for not presenting a fair portrayal. Now, please contact ABC and the other networks, including FOX and demand that they also show the tape and apologize.

3. Yea right, when is this going National?
Thanks for the link/ I read it, and it's real nice that they said they screwed up, but when is this going to be a National Public Announcement? Talk about damage being done! Shame on the media!!!!!!!!!

The only positive thing I can find in this whole thing is that Howard Dean is going to be the guest for the whole hour on Meet the Press on Sunday Morning. I hope this "appology" will be part of that!!

Guess I'll be busy tomorrow. He was going to show up at a house party, but now they've got him in a hall down the street.

10. Look at the Diane Sawyer story above...
What the country has been shown is Dean speaking with the near-deafening noise of his supporters banging cans and stomping their feet totally filtered out!

If I were a lunch mother trying to round up all the loud, unruly kids in my children's school lunchroom, I'd be yelling and waving my arms around. If some bozo were to film me doing that and erase all the backgroud noise and not show the kids, I'd look like some kind of apoplectic idiot. This is what was done to Dr. Dean. Shameful. At least Diane Sawyer had the courage to run this piece. I think they shoud play it 700 times, just to be "fair and balanced"

11. Does anybody have a list...
of people we can contact about this? A list of networks and email addresses to whom we can write and ask to play the REAL clip? This situation still burns me up inside

Tonight on Hardball, Chris Matthews finally admitted that the footage was overplayed and unfair. However, I feel it's too little too late. Why didn't any of these people realize the context of his speech before? Grrrrrrrrr

15. Did you notice Ailes' response?
Fox News: "It got overplayed a bit, and the public clearly thought that, too, and kept him alive for another round."
-- Roger Ailes, Chairman and CEO - Fox News

What an ass.

20. it's a non-issue
Since the tape came AFTER he was drubbed in Iowa, it had next to no effect on his fortunes. That 18% 3rd place finish is what did the damage.

The tape and all the surrounding hype is much ado about nothing. Dean's loss in Iowa was the cause of the real damage, not some overblown WWE outtake.

21. Bull Pucky
It was the phony tape. I saw it, I cringed too, and I LOVE the guy. When I saw the actual footage, I was angrier than I've ever been in my life. Total duplicity.
The next day, no one mentioned 3rd place, it was all about the ACTUALLY inaudible "scream".

22. Apologizing isn't enough.
We know there is a crisis in the manner information is delivered in this country.

They should all be forced to play the retraction 700 times.
