I sent this to Dave Weldon and Mel Martinez. I expect to be thoroughly ignored by the latter and condescendingly patronized by the former. In about four months I'll get a letter from Weldon patting me on the head and telling me to be a good little citzen by blindly following my president because he is the president.
I hope you had the opportunity to witness Vice President Gore's speech this afternoon. I do believe I have seen the greatest example of oratory in my lifetime. His plea for our public servants to pay heed to their constitutional duty gave voice to my feelings of anger, frustration and powerlessness.
I beg you to fully endorse VP Gore's recommendations. Preserving the integrity of the U.S. Constitution benefits not just the minority, but the majority party as well. If the U.S. is committed to a fair election process, the majority party may become the minority in any given election cycle.
Would Republicans truly be comfortable with a Democratic president holding him or herself above the law?
Regards, Rev. Dr. ________________
P.S. I cannot tell you how much it pains me to use that title with Gore but I figured I MIGHT get someone to read it if I didn't put what I really wanted to use.
