Specter is announcing that Alito PADDED HIS RESUME
Edited on Thu Jan-12-06 09:10 AM by Atman
Apparently he never actually attended any CAP meeting, or had much of anything to do with CAP. So it is obvious the man LIED to get a job in the Reagan administration.

Got that?

So let's move on and confirm him, while we mourn the death of democracy.

3. His statement was based on the findings in the records that
Kennedy's staff gleaned until the wee hours of the morning.

5. That's where this information came from. Supposedly Rusher turned
over all records relating to CAP. The staff went through four boxes until 2:00 a.m. They found no mention of Alito at all.

Was he a member? If yes, than his amnesia is "understandable" considering no one else has any mention of him.

Was he not a member? If no, than he lied on his application in 1985.

12. well, since Republican staffers went through them, Dems don't need
to see the papers too. They've been "screened." One way or another.

Sigh.

19. I believe it was Kennedy's office that went through them.
On the other hand, who knows what was screened before it got to Kennedy.

2. At first I was disappointed there was nothing to prove perjury in the
files, but then it dawned on me that this is indeed exactly what was being said. So was he a member of CAP or not? Did he lie on his application?

4. It's not like Alito belonged to a lot of different groups
CAP and the Federalist Society are the only two he even mentions. I don't even thing he put that he had been in the ROTC on there?

8. I believe I heard Alito say that he had been in ROTC and that
was probably why he joined CAP to protest the fact that ROTC was not at Princeton any more.

10. Then why didn't he proudly state that on his resume
when he was apply for this job in the Reagan administration? Did he really serve in the ROTC and attend meetings or did he make that up too?

6. Just Show the Documents
Padding his resume? Why would one use a group such as CAP to pad a resume? Does he hold CAP in high esteem and why?

16. I think he was applying for a job with Meese(?)
So he was tailoring the resume to highlight the sort of things he thought Meese might be looking for.

He tends to do this with everything. Listen to his answers and opinions. It all seems like the can change with the wind.

We must demand a filibuster of Alito!

20. We know he lied...
when he was in confirmation hearings for his previous judgeship. He said he would refrain from ruling on cases involving Vanguard. The he ruled on a case involving Vanguard. He had (has?) a substantial financial stake in Vanguard. So we know he lied, and we know he avoids constraints on conflicts of interest. Why isn't this on the front page of every paper, and the lead on every nightly newscast?

38. Yes, we definitely need to demand a filibuster...
If he lied to get one job, he'll lie to get another one, like he's doing now. He would be a major disaster, always voting for the government, the corporations, and against freedom of choice. Why can't our Democratic Senators even make an attempt to fight for us? If they are selling us out because they're afraid to rock the boat, then I suggest we torpedo their damned boat at election time.

29. I think in legal terms it was a "de facto" admission
If there is no record of Alito ever belonging to CAP, it then stands to reason that his resume was padded. Different words, same outcome.

Of course for the big time, three piece suit crowd its usually accepeted. Kind of like the current President of Cessna aircraft, lied out his ASS about his college degrees. Still has his job though, any other worker would have been SHIT CANNED for the same action.

21. Padded is a nice way of saying LIE
And really broke the law because more than likely the job he was applying for was in fact for a federal job. Lying on an Application is a federal offense and could be punishable by jail time.

Besides if he lied on an application 20 years ago what is to stop him from lying now and making him unworthy of an office like Supreme Court justice.

22. So could this be why Mrs. Alito cried, because her husband
lied and was about to get caught? No, he's not a bigot, he's worse! He was about to get found out. I too think these are grounds to disqualify him.

wasn't there a fuss a while back when some Dems fudged details on their resumes when they got jobs in the WH?

I think there were some cries of illegality from the Repukes . . .

24. Not only on CAP ...
... but if he's also saying that what he wrote in that 1985 memo/application for the job within the Reagan court wasn't really what he believed, then wouldn't that be construed as LYING on a job application?

That means he's
a/ a criminal
b/ lacking in ethics
c/ willing to say whatever he needs to say to get what he wants
d/ lacking any TRUE convictions.

Shouldn't this get a rec or two, to bump it up where it will get some more eyeballs? I certainly not a rec whore, but I am livid over this, and how it seems to be being brushed aside. This is virtually a SMOKING GUN...it needs to be addressed. How will THEY think it's important if us hard-core lefties don't appear to?
