Clark was on FAUX this AM and really stressed how
he's been on there twice over the weekend talking about Iran....and sure we could dominate them militarily (outlined the ways) but (raised his voice) why aren't we talking with them???? The interviewer jerk had asked him what to do about Iraq and Clark said it was a must to bring in Syria and Iran as part of a regional approach.

During the bit on Iraq, Clark was very strong in refuting the idea that "training the Iraqis" was the solution....he deftly said Pace was correct BUT....the sectarian divide is in the military, too. The election only illustrated that divide. He repeated that they have to form a gov. and change the constitution, so the bull that FAUX keeps pushing about the "success" of the election is misleading.

I woke up just in time to catch this and was glad I did....Clark just keeps getting better and better.

Meanwhile....our DC Dems aren't preempting Bush on this Iran crap with the simple fact that we have never talked to Iran, so how sincere is our interest in really even solving any problems we have with them or the region??

1. DC Dems are too busy playing rhetoric games because
the mean little Iranian president said some bad wordy-dirds about Israel.

They're not doing anything to calm the region - they're only egging this future war on.

3. Correct. Which is why I've pretty much written off the Democrats
except for Clark. Frankly, I wouldn't be surprised if he chose NOT to run because of the mucking up of so many issues regarding the region. With a party like this backing you....you get my drift.

4. There are so many Democrats, of so many different abilities and
philosophies that I really wonder when I read that someone has "written off the Democrats."

Which ones? Dick Durbin? Lloyd Dogget? Your state rep? The attorney General of New York State? Your precinct chairman? Howard Dean?

Why damn everyone in the party - - the only hope we have to stop this fascist march to destruction because some prominent members are useless?

How about checking out some really good Dems and throwing some real support to them? They could use it and you could find something positive to do, politically, with Democrats.

5. Democratic "spokespeople" always on the air....there seems to be
no coordination. One day we have Reid, Levin and Reed up there talking about the need for the constitution to be changed, finally sounding like they've got it together, the next day we have Murtha out again.

It's pathetic. When I say "write off the Democrats" I have to mean the "umbrella" because that is what is presented. Individual Dems get swamped by the inability of the leadership to put out a cohesive message. They really do not seem to learn.

The "prominent" members are the "face" of the Democrats for the average person on this issue and they are just not handling it well at all.

15. What unified message do you think they should have about Iraq?
Is it this: "Diplomacy: engage Iran and Syria in a discussion about what the US should do with Iraq and we will be able to protect US interests"?

8. No
It forces the rest of the countries in the region to step up to the plate and denounce Iran so we don't end up with total Iranian-influenced Islamic rule in Iraq. Sheesh. Letting the Iranian leader know he can't expect negotiations on nuclear energy when he's making anti-semitic statements is necessary in order to having any chance of successful resolution. It is NOT egging on war. I suspect Clark would say the same thing because HE isn't an idiot, thank god for that.

9. Bingo.
Good observation. Condoning (even by omission of opposition) the comments would probably egg on war MORE than denouncing them.

I don't care if we have to walk out with nothing but the clothes on our backs.

12. The plan is for airstrikes
They are not planning on ground forces. Nevertheless, if Iraq keeps going in the same direction it's going today, and if Iran keeps going in the same direction it's going today, and if bush refuses to make the changes necessary to settle the region down, then in a few years it's all over. It would seem a given that bush is not capable of diplomacy nor does he have a team that can do anything but make mistakes.

I tried to get my daughter to apply to graduate school in another country. So far she's decided not to listen to me.

So, I guess since we can't depend on bush, that leaves us hoping that other countries have more sense. A regional war is the worst thing that can happen to those countries in the Gulf.

14. We need Clark now.
He understands foreign policy and warfare and democracy and other forms of govt and religion and economics. He's a renaissance man when it comes to this stuff. Maybe if Bush hadn't been such a phenomenal screwup we wouldn't need Clark as much as we do, but he seems to have the most realistic approach to dealing with the shit Bush has caused.
