Does Colin Powell have any credibility left...
He seemed to agree with Bush's spying in a recent interview. However, since he took the ten-year old college thesis and the fake photos before the UN and lied like a dirty dog, I cannot muster any faith in this man's credibility. Why do they continue to bring him out as some sort of authority? Go away, Mr. Powell...

1. None whatsoever!
Too bad, I had hopes for him. He lived down to my worst suspicions, I have never got around that My Lai thing.

2. yeah, he lost what little credibility he had left at that performance
I remember watching it thinking: "He lies like a dog."

I was against the so-called Gulf War I (not really a war), so I've never been a Powell fan, but that UN BS was the last straw.

3. You're right, he has no credibility what-so-ever, but.......
he may know where a few of the (as yet unexposed) "bodies are buried".

11. Powell tried speaking at Willamette University in Salem, Oregon
And was greeted with protesters in the streets and ads in the local paper. As the backlash was gearing up, WU promptly explained that their big fund-raising event featuring the plum of a keynote address from the former Secretary of State was a private event at the private university, and would be open only to ticket-buying patrons.

12. A minority view ....
In relative terms, I think he'd be easier to flip to our side than most of the others of his ilk. There's always the chance, anyway.
I believe the defense of * policy you referenced was grossly misinterpreted by our side. I considered it damning.
Yeah, he did "lie like a dog" at the UN.

...O...

16. Why would we want him on our side, Bro'?
He's as guilty as the rest, imo... What specific policy did you think was misinterpreted, if I may ask?

20. Last I checked ....
we fell a few votes short of gaining the office of president, so I wouldn't exclude any possibility which neutralizes or erases the advantage of the other side. Yeah, I accept converts.

I interpret the following as saying that the president needed that authority, but should have obeyed the law as the legislative branch passed it.

The second para says he was cut out of the loop.
And the last excerpt:
"My own judgment is that it didn't seem to me, anyway, that it would have been that hard to go get the warrants. And even in the case of an emergency, you go and do it."

He is in the mainstream (at least in accord with most in congress) when he says that FISA should have been utilized.
Perhaps we should be expending our energies in total condemnation of the House and Senate for passing such a law (FISA).
I think the big gripe is the inappropriate use - total bypass - of the court, not the court's existence per se.

The emphasis I received was:
"And even in the case of an emergency, you go and do it." (get the warrant)

...O...

"WASHINGTON - Former Secretary of State Colin Powell on Sunday supported government eavesdropping to prevent terrorism but said a major controversy over presidential powers could have been avoided by obtaining court warrants.

Powell said that when he was in the Cabinet, he was not told that President Bush authorized a warrantless National Security Agency surveillance operation after the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks.

Appearing on ABC's "This Week" Powell said he sees "absolutely nothing wrong with the president authorizing these kinds of actions" to protect the nation.

But he added, "My own judgment is that it didn't seem to me, anyway, that it would have been that hard to go get the warrants. And even in the case of an emergency, you go and do it."

21. The comment that got me...
Powell said he sees "absolutely nothing wrong with the president authorizing these kinds of actions" to protect the nation.

That comment sort of overrides all others, imo... He excuses everything with that statement.
