Neil Lisst cartoon - Sept 19th -27th
The next group covers four days of cartoons about serious political topics, written more for the material communicated than for humor or amusement. Following that group is a group of five, which cover Hurricane Rita, primarily to give an amusing firsthand report.

Monday, September 19
Chickenhawks
After a week of more light-hearted material developing Neil and adding some humor, we returned to our hard hitting political messages with a shot at Bush and Cheney, and their chickenhawk ways.

Tuesday, September 20
Haiku
People either love this one or they hate it. I always say "write first for your own amusement." If you're not having fun, why do it? I have fun with words, and this is one example.

Wednesday, September 21
Bush Records
No punch line. Just harsh facts about the Bush Reign of Error, mainly about how good he's been for oil.

Thursday, September 22
Poverty Nation
The grim reality of poverty under Bush.

1. Here are the five cartoons about Rita's impact

The Hurricane Rita grouping

Friday, September 23
Hurricane Rita
This cartoon was a splash of color like seen in weather radar as a large storm approaches the nation. It's about how family crisis reigns over politics or divorce. By the way, Cut N' Shoot and Dimebox are two real towns north of Houston.

Saturday, September 24
Land Fall!!
We give you a slice of life when the storm hits at night and the power goes out.

Sunday, September 25
Hurricane Cindy
We knew she'd be in DC on this day, at a big protest, and wanted to give some support to her even in the dark.

Monday, September 26
Will Fox News blame the mayor of New Orleans?
After Bush took such a beating for his failure to act promptly after Katrina hit, Fox News led the way in trying to place blame instead on the mayor of New Orleans. We figured they might try it even though Rita hit 300 miles away.

Tuesday, September 27
The Real Disaster
You cannot imagine the chaos and near anarchy on the highways leading out of Houston. It was horrific. This one is an eye witness report that the nation news gloss of the Rita evacution was a fraud.

2. K&R'd.
Great stuff, Neil. It totally sucks that you have to cartoon such heavy duty subjects, but I thank you for doing so.

3. Thanks for the good words!

Sometimes we have something to say, and as I tell my cartoon partner, some things cannot be made funny. That's when Neil Lisst has to earn his name.

As I sat watching the disaster of Katrina unfold, I found myself wondering how we could sit by and watch this happen on TV! I thought to myself "you are becoming such a nihilist."

Then it hit me, the idea for the cartoon, the name, and how he looked. I talked to an old friend who is a cartoonist, along with some other friends whose artistic talents I value, pitched the idea, and we were rolling within a day. It is a labor of love.

6. Hey there, MATTMAN.
Always good to have you stop in for a comment.

I decided to do an end of year perspective, go back and review where we've been the last 4 months. What a ride for the country!

7. There is a lot of truth in your cartoons.
And they are easier to understand then the ones in the newspaper.

8. Wow. Glad to hear that.
As we went along, we'd get feedback from friends. One of the things it convinced me was to be as clear as possible each cartoon, so each one could communicate on its own. If you have to know what happened yesterday to understand today, it complicates things.
