Tinfoil Hat Time ..... Who thinks * used the NSA to spy on Kerry?
Edited on Tue Dec-20-05 02:17 PM by Botany

I hate to sound like the little old lady who talks about her kitties or the UFO "expert"
who knows that planet XJ -77 is sending "little grey people" to earth but I saw and
heard too much in Ohio in 04. Computers w/ 5 & 6 firewalls were hacked into and
phone lines were blocked or replaced with strange music and weird voices. (true stories)

Is the why bush is scrambling to get the domestic spying behind him? After all, there
was a judge @ the Dept. of Justice 24/7 to grant warrants and bin Laden & al Qaeda
are outside the US and you don't need a court's o.k. to spy on them.

I'm sure that not only Kerry but all the Democratic candidates were on the list. And Dean still is, I'm sure.

5. I'm Not a Tinfoil hat person,
but common sense tells me George was spying on people he doesn't want us to know about. There is absolutely no reason for spying on terrorists to be a secret. It might not have been Kerry, but it sure as hell could have been and who knows who else--liberal(?) journalists?

11. I Shouldn't Be One Blamed Bit Surprised
I shouldn't be one blamed bit surprised if Dubya used the NSA to spy on John F. Kerry. Since Gee Dubya has been inaugurated, the Banana Republicans have been h*ll-bent on turning the federal government's intelligence agencies from their mission of keeping tabs on enemies of the United States to perpetuating the Republican Party's grasp on power.

17. Well in Jan of 04
The repugs were caught red handed hacking looking @ the democratic senators' computer
files ...... their excuse was that it was too easy to do ..... so they just "had to."

Our strong dem leaders in the senate didn't say shit. The snoop worked in Hatch's & Frist's
offices ...... he was fired but since then has been rehired somewhere in the repug party.

You don't need a tin foil hat to imagine all the handy uses Bush found for these wire-taps.

15. No doubt. None
I am reasonably sure ALL of the Dem candidates have been spied on - probably most of the Dem Congresspeople. Remember, anyone who challenges * is deemed a terrorist, and any terrorist is subject to harrassment.

The Bush crime syndicate uses election fraud and money-laundering (and God knows what else) to grab power. I could see them spying on journalists, or anyone they feared may be on to them.

19. I think it is a reasonable question that demands a full answer.
The use of echelon for political advantage is an obvious problem. The administration has already conceded that it violated the law, it should now be required to document exactly who was monitored, when they were monitored, and what was done with the collected information.

This ain't no tin foil hat issue. In fact, I think it is high time that an apology be made, a collective apology, from all of us at DU who have insulted other DU'ers with the tinfoil hat label. The fact is that this administration has been proved capable of just about anything. In particular LIHOP and MIHOP are right back on the table as legitimate discussions.

I'll start. I apologize for using 'tinfoil hat' as a insult. You guys were riding the crest of the wave. The rest of us are swimming hard trying to catch up.

22. What would be wrong with spying on Kerry?
By criticizing the conduct of the war, he was giving aid & comfort to the enemy, just like those Quaker peacenik terrorists. Had he won the election, he might have caused irreparable harm to the interests of the Oiligarchy, so he had to be stopped by any means necessary, be it Swiftboating, Diebolding, or domestic surveillance.

26. Team * is more paranoid and narcissistic then Team Nixon
and we live in a wired, interconnected world with the web, satellite communications, flash memories, etc., etc., etc.

I do not think Team * had the character or integrity or respect for the Constitution or respect for "Law'N'Order" ( Remember "Law'N'Order" from Nixon's campaign and Spiro T. Agnew? :)) to refrain from it. After all - it's so easy.

but Karl definately monitored progressive groups to figure out how they were organizing and how to try to diffuse our influence.

At closer examination of GOP counter-measures I'm sure we'll find alot of coincidences

36. When are we going to wake up and ADMIT...
That we NO LONGER live in a Democracy? HOW MANY MORE ADMISSIONS of wrong doing, wholesale law breaking, kicking our Constitution to the curb, kiss my ass if you don't like it, I AM GOING TO CONTINUE TO DO JUST WHAT I WANT TO DO attitude, is it going to take for us to get it? We have a pResident that stands up and tells us we have been spied upon, and HE doesn't give a shit HOW we feel about it..! So when the man doesn't care what we think, it means we now live under a dictator...PERIOD!! A man who is telling us to get used to it...it's his way or the highway...a man WHOSE WAGES WE PAY, and HAVE THE RIGHT/DUTY TO REPLACE when it becomes apparent he no longer has our best interests in mind.....and since he no longer cares what we think or how we feel, that indicates from here on out, it only gets worse..

I figure our Democracy died right in front of our eyes in Nov of 63, and we were too traumatized to realize what was really happening... Eisenhower warned us about this group,(guess they weren't as stupid as he thought) Kennedy tried to fight them..and the same group is still calling the shots to this day...it took decades...but they stole our Democracy, and all the while we continue to sleep...Kissinger said we'd be thrilled to turn to them for safety, when the time came....I hope that's not going to turn out to be true too....

Has no dirt on him, as clean as a pin - that's why they had to resort to the
"Swifties." I would suppose, for Kerry it's a given fact.
