Boehlert's actions make him target of conservatives
Moderate criticized for breaking ranks

WASHINGTON — Rep. Sherwood Boehlert's on-and-off war with conservative House leaders is getting a little hotter.
As one of the GOP's most outspoken moderates, Boehlert has been increasingly in the face of House leaders by working against high-profile GOP legislation that he considers harmful to the country. For example:
•In October, the central New York Republican led a small band of moderates in trying to block a House vote on a bill to give cash-flush oil companies tax incentives to expand refinery capacity.
The pro-environment chairman of the House Science Committee has often opposed his party's environmental and energy policies.
But it's rare for a committee chairman to break ranks on a procedural vote, regarded as the ultimate test of party loyalty.
