Something up in the Senate. C-Span 2
I arrived late so not sure what, but it is obvious that tempers are flaring. John Warner has threaten to filibuster his own bill.

5. Yesiree
He objects to the way they are doing it, after the conference committee had already signed off on the bill.

7. This is what Tom Allen (D-ME) was talking about this morning:
Washington, D.C.---U.S. Representative Tom Allen today condemned Republican Congressional leaders for including a provision in the defense appropriations bill to open the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to drilling for oil and natural gas. The provision, which was not contained in the bills passed in either the House or the Senate earlier this year, was added to the conference report yesterday.

“Sneaking Arctic drilling into the defense appropriations bill sets a new low in rules abuse by Congressional Republican leaders,” Representative Allen said. “Attaching Arctic drilling, which cannot pass on its own, to the must-pass defense appropriations bill is profoundly undemocratic. In the past, defense appropriations were a bipartisan matter. Now, the Republican leadership considers funding for our troops as just another political football. It’s time for rank and file Republicans in the House and Senate to stand up to their leaders or accept responsibility for the consequences of these despicable tactics.”

“The Arctic refuge is a national treasure and its fate deserves a straight up or down vote in the U.S. Congress,” Representative Allen said. “Instead, it joins a long line of measures rammed through Congress with sleazy tactics. It further demonstrates the need to reform how the People’s House does its business.”

Representative Allen cited the reform package he and Representatives David Obey (D-WI), Barney Frank (D-MA) and David Price (D-NC) unveiled on December 5th. The proposals are designed to curtail the influence of lobbyists, open debate in conference committees where much of the real work of legislating takes place, and put an end to other serious abuses of power by House leaders. Under the proposed reforms, the House would have an opportunity to vote to remove a provision added in conference that had not been in the bill originally passed by the House and Senate. This would allow the House to vote to remove the Arctic drilling provision from the defense appropriations bill.

12. This is huge. I don't think it's going to just melt away.
The MSM will be forced to play it, they really don't have a choice.

13. Saw Warner last night when he was talking about it....
He wouldn't go into what exactly it was but Duncan Hunter added something after the bill was already done and through the Confirmation Committee. Warner said he told Hunter to get it out of there or he would pull the Senate support of it. It was a Defense Appropriation Bill. Harry Reid gave him a Big Praise for putting the Country over Party.
Then they adjorned.

19. So it was Hunter that tacked this on? Did he do it by himself
(how illegal is that?!) or did he have a crony backing him up?

my favorite stream of consciousness quote: "They are not being mistreated every day." (in gitmo) Every day is testable hypothesis, therefore, Sessions may be telling the truth.

Does he wear make-up for the senate sessions? Sessions, I mean. Or do those beady eyes come naturally?
