More Conservative perversion of the truth

Recently some "Soundoffs" and LTTEs in the Gulfport newspaper have claimed that hurricane survivors who received EBT (food stamp) debit cards were using them to purchase stereo equipment, clothes, jewelry etc. (does welfare queen ring a bell?) But, gosh a quick check of the facts and one would discover that EBT cards can only be used for food purchases. However the seed has been planted in the narrow and hateful minded.

1. One wonders why the papers,

which should know better, would allow LTTEs in without some clarification about the EBT cards.

2. I sincerely believe

that the paper in gulfport is anxious for clashes, and that is not a criticism. I've seen several examples of it when an LTTE is so far off base, Stevie Wonder could see the injustice. Sure enough two or three days later at least one LTTE is published totally slamming the original one. Its quite predictable and enjoyable. I'm really pleasantly surprised at the LTTE's in the Sun-Herald. Lots of conservative stuff but some godawful incredible letters from pretty damn serious liberals. Pretty cool for south of I-10.

5. Because they're lazy asses that's why.

I wrote an LTTE to my local fishwrap responding to another letter where some wingnut was carping about how people who were challenging the election results should leave the country. Mine said that perhaps Bush should leave because HE was the one who sued Gore back in 2000. Some idiot responded to mine with the completely false claim that the Gore campaign filed the first lawsuit in Florida and how poor widdle Bush was just trying to protect himself from the evil Democratic judges and legislators in that state.

Had those *ahem* hard-working editors at the East Valley Tribune taken 10 seconds to Google the 2000 election cases, they would have seen that the writer was incorrect in his assertion that Gore filed the first suit. Actually Palm Beach county voters filed first, against both campaigns. Then Bush filed shortly after and then Gore, weeks later. But noooooo....that would've been too hard.

So of course I wrote back and corrected it. And chastised the paper for not doing their job. They did print my letter so that was cool but there's still no excuse.

3. Lazy, trash probably used EBTs to buy dope and lap-dances!

The sad thing is, that once the lies are repeated often enough, otherwise intelligent people believe it.

4. Cold enough for you Rowdy?

our Dragon-winged Begonias finally succumbed to the cold, but our Petunias are hanging on. And our Pansies are kicking mother nature's ass with all their pretty blooms come hard rain and freezing temps. Our Camellias are way late this year but I expect them to put on quite a show this weekend. The Misses made a nice bed of Snapdragons on the southside of the house right outside the kitchen window. Ya'll stay warm.

9. I've got violas and johnnie-jump-ups blooming....

Camellias about to start too and I have a half dozen snapdragons outside the kitchen. Its hard to keep warm in this drafty, big old house (at least without declaring bankruptcy) but we manage. things are much better since we added insulation, central heat/air and storm windows. It may not be warm, but its comfortable wearing sweats.

6. if you go to Snopes.com and look at hoaxes with religious or

political content you will see most come from a conservative (Republican/Christian) viewpoint. You must ask yourself why does the right lie so much to their own people?
