Chris Matthews brother running for office in Penn. Matthews gives air tim
Chris Matthews announced on MSNBC today that his brother is running for office in Pennsylvania. I think he is running for Congress, but he is running as a Republican.

Chris gave airtime to his brother, allowing the younger man to announce his candidacy.

It will be interesting to see if MSNBC will give equal time to his Democratic opponent. Yeah, right....I'm holding my breath.

1. IIRC"equal time" was abolished during Reagan administration...no more
fairness doctrine. No outlet is REQUIRED to grant equal time, though many still do.

3. I would call it all of the above, but mainly Horse hockey.
I hope you realize I'm not defending it at all, I grieve th loss of the fairness doctrine. I feel if it had been in place, Kerry would NOT have been swiftboated. The swiftboat liars got amazing amounts of prime media time unilaterally. If Fox were required to give EQUAL time to Kerry, I don't think we'd have heard from the swifty liars nearly as much.

4. Equal time never applied to cable TV
It only applied to broadcast media.

however, I still think swifty liars monopolized a great deal of normal network time, as well.

5. If it's his brother Jim, he's definately a Republican
He's Chairman of the county Commissioners here in Montgomery County. I've met him a few times and he's seems a pretty decent guy. But what I'm not so sure is what district he'd be running for. It's either Curt Weldon's district who's a Republican or it's Jim Gerlach's district which is Democrat. If it's Gerlach's I think he's in for a real tough road. Rep. Gerlach seems to be pretty well liked in his district.
