My Fellow Citizens
I posted this over the holiday and it went largely undiscussed, which I must say, disappointed me because I was moderately proud of it. So in an attempt to stroke my own ego I am posting it again. I also submitted it to my local newspaper as a LTTE.

Good morning my fellow citizens, I want to thank you all for coming or tuning in to hear what I have to say today. I will not twist the truth but instead, give it to you straight. The truth is painful sometimes, and often frightening and intimidating. It must be ever present at the fore however, because without it the value based decisions we citizens of the world make are tainted and twisted.

Myself, and the Democratic Party of the United States of America make this pledge to you. We will end the tainting and twisting of information. We, as fellow citizens, realize that the path before us pays no mind to the color of our skin, the name of our religion, the gender of our bodies, or the sexuality of our neighbors and friends.

Our Nation and the entire world are in trouble. I believe we have reached a point in time where the decisions the leaders and citizens of this world make now, will greatly alter the lives of generations to come.

Ask yourself what kind of world you really want your children and their children to live in.

Climate change, fear. War, fear. Energy shortages, fear. Terror, fear. Economy, fear. Elections, fear. I could go on. We have fear, because we have no trust or faith in our leaders to do what is right. We have no trust becasue we have no truth. Questions swirl around us in our den of secrecy unanswered. We, as citizens and leaders, must address them all. It is only through a truthful exploration of the issues that define our time that we can release ourselves from our oppressive fear. It is only through this exploration, that we can define the paths that will guide us in the difficult times ahead.

To borrow from Robert Frost, with all the paths before us, we must now take the one less traveled by, for it will make all the difference.

Thank you.

That is the speech I want to hear.

Olaf

1. Funny - all we really want is some truth - under Bush and his mediashills
truth has become more scarce than an original copy of the Declaration of Independence.

2. It's a good political speech.....
short, covers lots of ground, and asks the right questions.

However, there are only generalizations about the problems without including specific plans to solve them.

It would be a nice stump speech and I understand and appreciate your efforts to verbalize our feelings. Thanks for taking the time and energy to write this. :toast:

4. Yeah, when I started to write it I was going to get very specific
and detailed, but I sort of ran out of steam with that thought process and it morphed into something else as I was writing it. So I went with that instread. I tend to be an emotional writer.

3. I think I saw this over the holiday
as I recall the theme of Truth and also of the 'road less traveled'. I agree that the key to getting our country back is to have honest, open government. I think we, as progressives, should back candidates who not only promise this, but have shown through the actions of their lives that they will follow through.

5. But that's the point...
Sadly but truly we may never hear that...unless it's from Clark, and the reason we want is because they want to keep us afraid...but i don't think we should be as afraid as we should be angry, they want us to live in fear in order to make us rely on them...but the fear you are speaking of may be what America needs to kick Bush out...Let's just hope he gets impeached before he can screw up anymore...

We can only hope,

thank you,
~Salaama
