How did 'pukes ever get to be so horribly, horribly WRONG?
Do you ever wonder why they ended up with * for brains? Why they're so greedy and cruel? Were they abused as children? Left in the fields to die? Exposed to cruel punishments until they agreed to the 'puke manifesto?

What made the whole Bush cabal go insane? I mean, Social Security is the untouchable third rail of politics, so what made all the 'pukes go crazy and try to eliminate it? What made Cheney go insane and start plotting adventurous wars? Did Bush I give him too much power? Did Dick get off on pushing the button on all those bombs? Did Saddam call him names and say he was going to tell Dick's mommy?

Do 'pukes just have a "disturbed" gene that makes them naturally insane?

What do you think is behind the 'puke mass insanity?

As Helen Caldicott might say.

Also explains the standard white boy response to Willie:

"He looked me in the eye and lied." WTF?????

2. I think
Conservatives are scared to Die. I also believe "fear of death" was a major factor even before Franken's latest book for those who have read.

inside them at all times. I guess those are probably caused by the fear that they seem to constantly live in. I have no idea how a republican enjoys life.

10. Getting rid of the Fairness Doctrine allowed them to build a lie machine.
Corruption and incompetence is inherent in their ideologies because they are not reality based.

Because they built a propaganda machine that (they thought) could cover for any corruption or incompetence on their part, their corruption and incompetence could only grow worse, as long as their propaganda machine is intact.

Their propaganda machine is their greatest strength, and their greatest weakness.

They are not part of the reality based community.

They squash feedback.

They walk off a ledge, thinking it's the most brilliant move they could make.

In their make believe world everything that happens is a brilliant victory for them, and a tragic blunder for their opponents.

In their make believe world they have all positive personal characteristics, and their opponents have all negative personal characteristics.

In their make believe world they can get away with lying about anything, and never get caught in a lie.

This is how propaganda works.

Ideas themselves mean nothing.

The behavioral conditioning of "us all positive/them all negative" is everything.

It works on the emotions, and on the subconscious.

Example: If a rude noise is sounded whenever a friend's name is mentioned, eventually you will wince whenever you hear that friend's name.

If the behavioral conditioning is strong enough, you will reject that friend, without really knowing why.

They lie and say "We just do what they do", but there is no main stream equivalent to the extremity of lies, insults, and misrepresentations that make up the whole of their propaganda.

On our websites we expose actual lies told by them.

On their websites all they can do is say we don't cover their talking points enough.

Don't let them trip you out.

Their propaganda has no reality.

Their propaganda will be their undoing.

24. Exactly...
... but as you say, results always eventually trump propagando, and once the confidence of the public is lost, it is very very VERY difficult to regain.

Thankfully :)

11. I think religious delusion is a key factor.
With the right blend of religiosity those in power are only too happy to accept the premise that they are indeed a cut above humanity and therefore immune from making mistakes.
God is on their side. See earlier threads re "Messianic Nationalism"
They need not bother with the rules of conduct so necessary for we the unscrubbed. This new conservative christian influence in our government is what our forefathers were trying to warn us about.

12. Very true, they weren't batshit crazy until Reagan
sold the party out to the religious wackos, the Moral Majority "Stealth candidate" types, the shrieking lunatics. Before then, they'd been misguided and a drag on progress in this country, and the enemy of working folks, but provided enough of a balance that the few nuts on the liberal side didn't get too carried away.

In other words, they sold their soul to the biggest devil they could find in order to get into power. Once there, the devil took over. It's an old, old story.

21. And Reagan's act corrupted BOTH
Reagan sold out the Repuke party to the religious right. In return, the religious right sold its soul for a taste of power. Both became corrupt.

In the NT account of the temptation of Christ, Satan offered Jesus all the kingdoms of the world, but Jesus declined. The religious right, however, couldn't resist that temptation and has been chasing political power ever since.

18. Blind rage...
Been festering for decades but it erupted in 1994 with the "I'm ignorant and proud of it" election.

It's been downhill ever since, resulting in W.

When you stop and think about it, what has the GOP Congress done in the last 10 years that can really be called "progress" for the American people?

Maybe they should rename their party the Bad People Party. They seem to be proud of it. They have managed to stitch together a compelling coalition of greedheads, religious crazies, racists, rednecks, neocon warmongers and all manner of bad, evil people.

23. When you're obsolete in the world

and have come to hate the collective future as something you're a status-declining and low status part of at best, it comes easily.

It's the "adult" form of the way the kids falling out of high school behave- the vandalism, the drugs and drunkenness, the hate, the viciousness, the crudeness, the violence, the ganging up, the guns, the escapist alternative theories of reality, the theft, the lies, the cheating, the police car rides, the jealous controlling of partners and friends, the rapes and the blowjobs, the car crashes, the need to stomp other kids on the sports field (or in the parking lot, or the back allies) and scream "We're Number One!" The incredibly painful envy and conspiracies born of envy, the need to drag down other people, the terrible selfhatred and selfdoubts that have to be drowned by something, and lots of wanderings close to suicide (i.e. "going crazy"). The fear of being tested, of being measured, the search for people who are easily coopted and lazy. The need for warmth and continual assurance and shared delusion, never mind how foolish the company you keep, and shared fear of light. And total rejection of 'nerds' and 'elites' and such.

What you have in Republicans is Americans who think being born or acting White, doing the exclusivist Christian/messianic thang (but in a way that comes easily), and being part of the colonial/corporatist exploitive class amounts to the only desirable way of life. But despite their past and present domination there's a world (and large proportion of Americans) out there that says none of these three things is going to endure the next human lifetime in the country as the dominant force, that they are not ultimates.

In fact, this large proportion of Americans (them Evil Libruls) spends a lot of time pointing out the failures of these three privileged states/choices in the present, and rather successfully observing and arguing that they are failing choices with no future, i.e. becoming obsolete. These Evil Libruls also keenly note how the Believers in these things are also falling/failing socially- net losing status and wealth, have pathological family and other social problems, are unable to keep up with science and global currents, are perpetual hypocrites.

And so the reactionaries have licensed the present Republican program- restoring the wealth/power advantage to the colonial overlord classes, using government power to crudely 'fix' their social failures to some faux old ideal, and slowing down the progress/evolution of societies worldwide via suppressive governments and chaotic violence. And funding noise machines to drown out the Evil Libruls' accusations of immoralism, stupidity, lies, crimes, and hypocrisy. Bad solutions all, aka 'backlash'.

And they fail, of course. The overlord classes simply squander the excess wealth and can't hold on to the excess power in the face of enough opposition; they're not large enough stature human beings to do any better, though they can delay the decay via group coherent action/conspiracy. The uses of government power to interfere in social affairs backfires and fails. The rest of the world revolts against the new colonialisms and colonial wars and methods imposed on them. This leads to the failing high schooler behavior- all the best efforts turn out to be inadequate, the world slowly rejects all the efforts to overwhelm it and stop or turn back the clock.

The other psychological phenomenon, beyond the entitled/privileged-but-obsolete behavior, the one we see all over the Net, is the magical thinking that is needed to sustain this set of fools' dreams.
