What is wrong with this picture? NOTHING!
Edited on Sun Nov-27-05 04:51 PM by applegrove
RIP Woodfield. Nothing wrong with the photo itself. When someone gives their life in service to their country - at the very least they deserve a big march. The wrong thing about this picture is that if the US had not invaded iraq - then the Afghanis would be under control. He died on the job - an accident - but that is often the cost of being in the military. Dangerous work even if you are not invading but trying to keep the peace.

"Woodfield's body comes home to Canada

CBC News
The body of the Canadian soldier killed in Afghanistan on Thursday has arrived at Canadian Forces Base Trenton in Ontario.

Pte. Braun Scott Woodfield died when the armoured vehicle he was in rolled over on a highway near the city of Kandahar in southern Afghanistan.

FROM NOV. 24, 2005: Canadian soldier killed in Afghanistan

Eight sombre red-coated soldiers carried his flag-draped casket, as the pipes played early Sunday afternoon. A chaplain led the procession, while soldiers in camouflage uniforms marched behind.

Members of his family, an honour guard, Defence Minister Bill Graham and Gen. Rick Hillier, the chief of the Canadian Armed Forces, were among those who met the plane.

Snip ...."

7. I certainly see the picture.
How demoralizing and harmful to the poor Canadians to see a flag draped casket
containing the remains of one of their soldiers. Why hasn't the government
censored such a disgraceful display?:sarcasm:

Maybe Canadians don't put up with that kind of crap.

8. That's outrageous - They should hide the casket in shame...
like we do.

10. Good lord, those Canucks are stupid
Flying the body in during DAYLIGHT? Letting cameras RECORD it? No wonder they have nationalized free medical care, a rising standard of living, excellent media and all those other horrors they have up there.

9. What's wrong with the picture is that the kid is dead, what is right
is that his government is not ashamed to honor him and acknowledge his service and sacrifice.

I wish there were no need for photos like that in this world. But so long as there is reason, hiding the toll and pretending it isn't as heartbreaking as it is is just a big ole American lie.

We deserve better.
