This just proves that the Repugs have no exit plan
If this is the only thing they can come up with, it shows that they have not put any thought into it. After all the talk that the Dems have no plan, then they trot out Cheney and Bush and compare Murtha to Michael Moore, with no debate/ Poison pill resolution, to rally the sheeple, now this Poison Pill resolution, to say you voted it down, just to have a talking point. A very dangerous game to be playing. I,m so proud of the Dems tonight.

1. I'm watching C-Span,
something I've never done, having spent far too much time on Capitol Hill in my previous life.

But, the callers are fascinating. When did "support our troops" get to be such an idiotic mantra? How can these people - whose votes count the same as ours - possibly justify all the loss of life with such an insipid, moronic, mindless little slogan?

I don't support the troops. I don't support anything involved with this whole obscenity.

3. No, I'm not about to argue with you
It's your choice, and I understand it, as I'm sure you understand mine.

That's fair.

But - I just thought of this - what does it mean, "I support the troops"?

5. My take is that it's an attempt to prevent the post-Vietnam era of...
slamming and cursing troops over their role in Vietnam.

I don't see that happening and yeah, the pitiful slogan is just that. It's just a way for Chinese magnetic ribbon companies to make more money.

9. That's my first thought, too,
that kneejerk reaction that's been bent over backwards so that it's now meaningless, and, yes, you're right, those "Made In China" crapola ribbons.

11. i would never wear that ribbon or have a bumper sticker that
says "support our troops" for fear that people would think i'm for the war. i want these troops home. NOW

10. Hi, big, and thank you .....
There IS a lot of my stuff, isn't there?

It's all been melted together, hasn't it, in a patriot soup that one doesn't dare question without being called a traitor, or worse?

8. i don't support what they're doing, but again they're following

orders. do you expect them to just walk away and take a flight home? they're stuck there. and by support i also mean that i contributed money last summer for misty mates -- a device that they fill with water and it sprays their faces for about an hour and a half when there in desert heat of 120 degrees.

and the year before i contributed money to the families of the troops in the national guard who were taken away from their jobs and we're not getting paid by their employers.

12. In my dream, yes,
that's exactly what I see them doing - "I Ain't Marching Anymore" - and I hear Phil Ochs singing. In the best of all worlds.

Good for you for what you've done and continue to do. We've made contributions to various organizations tending to the needs of families here who were left, for all practical purposes, destitute when their breadwinner(s) were called to active duty.

I don't call that "supporting the troops" when we do it, though. I think of it as supporting the individuals who are getting metaphorically screwed by our government. In all good conscience, I cannot support any troops in Iraq.

I can dream, though, of all those soldiers putting down their weapons and saying, "No, we won't kill any more," and walking away. We all need dreams, just as our soldiers dream of coming home.

Thanks for the clarification, and, again, good for you!

7. I was thinking of him
Imagine what he'd have to work with today ....

I miss him every day.

You know, I made a donation to his memorial wildlife fund, and his Mom wrote me a handwritten thank-you note, with her home address on the return. Isn't that gorgeous?

I miss him.

Thanks for remembering him, too.........

17. speaking of gulf war 1 i haven't heard anything lately about
the illness some of those troops had. they called it "gulf war syndrome" and they put it into the same category as my illness "chronic fatigue syndrome".

19. They don't need one,
They want to stay.
Forever or until every US soldier is dead, whichever comes first.

"Until every US soldier is dead" is because then none of them will have died in vain. Or so the Repubs would have it.
