I believe the Alternative Minimum Tax severely screwed up the
Republican big tax cut. It did make the tax cut appear to increase revenue a little bit, but not enough to keep us from having to use red ink. The big push is on to eliminate the AMT and extend the tax cuts which will really force red ink spending.

Republicans hate all progressive tax rates. But they also know that some unborrowed money is needed to finance their contracts with RNC campaign contributers and to keep small businesses from challenging global monopolies. The alternative minimum tax impose chains on successful working-class people, while raising revenue from a regressive tax which automatically increases only when a nonpolitical businessperson dares to make any profit.
