1. W is no longer supported by the majority of Americans
Edited on Wed Nov-16-05 11:00 PM by Erika
Maybe he and the Bush kids will expand the war. He won't find support elsewhere.

2. I think it's true that Bush wants more wars.
But what is he going to do for an army? I suppose he could just bomb the snot out of his next target, but eventually you need ground troops, and we are running out of those. Re-institute the draft? Political disaster. I am wondering just exactly how Commander Bunnypants proposes to do his next war.

My understanding, in the Patriot Act, President have right to go into country that "He" find treat. I think I heard this on Thom Harmenn yesterday. Maybe someone here can check out Patriot Act.

9. The military is stretched too thin as it is.
I don't think he has the manpower, the money, the will of the American people, or the will of Congress to start another war. I do think he's got military personnel in Syria already, but he's not going to be able to launch a full-scale war. (But what do I know?)

How do we un-numb them?

11. Okay. I'm sold.
Bush is friggin' insane. And I don't mean the fun vernacular usage of that word. I mean that he is a certifiable lunatic with no connection to reality at all.

To try to parley the loose knit group of murderous thugs called al Queda into a foe of such titanic proportions is, like, delusion squared. There are more people in my little town than there are in AQ.

Anybody know how we get this crazy mofo the mental help he needs? Surely, Congress can remove him simply for being mentally unstable. Let's get cracking before this dumbass pushes the button!

29. That's exactly what...
... German intellectuals said about Hitler---"He wouldn't, he's not THAT crazy." Dubya's hungry for more war and the neocon fanatics (the PNAC Brigade) are going provide all the encouragement he needs.

Here's a link and a few paragraphs from a review by Bernard Weiner of a book written by an amazing man named Sebastian Haffner. Haffner offers some great insights into Hitler's rise to power. It seems to be where we're headed.

http://www.crisispapers.org/Editorials/germany-1933.htm

--------------------------------------
Haffner tries to solve the riddle of the easy acceptance of fascism in Hitler's Third Reich. In March of 1933, a majority of German citizens did not vote for Hitler. "What happened to that majority? Did they die? Did they disappear from the face of the earth? Did they become Nazis at this late stage? How was it possible that there was not the slightest visible reaction from them" as Hitler, installed by the authorities as Chancellor, began slowly and then more quickly consolidating power and moving Germany from a democratic state to a totalitarian one?

All along the way, Hitler would propose or actually promulgate regulations that sliced away at German citizens' freedoms -- usually aimed at small, vulnerable sectors of society (labor unionists, communists, Jews, mental defectives, et al.) -- and few said or did anything to indicate serious displeasure. In the early days, on those rare occasions when there was concerted negative reaction, Hitler would back off a bit. And so the Nazis grew bolder and more voracious as they continued slicing away at civil society. Many Germans (including some of Hitler's original corporate backers) were convinced Nazism would collapse as it became more and more extreme; others chose denial. It was easier to look the other way.

Haffner saw what was starting to happen, but retreated into his law studies. Even while the Brownshirts were beating and killing people in the streets, the courts with which he worked remained a solid bulwark in defense of traditional democratic principles. And then one day, the Nazis simply marched into the Berlin court buildings and took over Germany's judicial system. Haffner was shaken to the core, but continued studying for his final exams.

26. Hell yes, he's wanted war with Syria and Iran for a long time.
That was his "political capital" (political pocket change?) back a year ago.

Now George the terrible businessman is overextending himself. He's like a car, with a stick jamming its accelerator pedal to "on", heading for a cliff.

The sooner he finally goes over, the less people will die. I've been praying for him to go over it for about 2 years now. Maybe I should add some animal sacrifices or something...

31. Call me paranoid,
But I honestly and truly think that another terrorist attack will happen. Right after that, he will institute martial law and the draft......if something doesn't derail him first.

The Bush cabal are completely beyond anything that you might call rational. The reason, IMHO, that they identify so well with the religious right is that their ideology has the same kind of religious fervor. I don't think they have anything more than a nodding acquaintance with logic either.........

32. I keep asking
what straw is going to break the camel's back... but then, I see this, in my context, and * might be seein it, in his...who stands to lose the most? who is going to stop him/them?...surely he couldn't be that crazy??? yes, from things I have been reading, he is..and he does NOT now, nor will he want to give up the power he's grown so fond of, in another election...this bunch has bankrupted this country, and sold us down the river...surely no one can possibly think, that what the average man/woman on the street wants, makes a bit of difference to the junta running this country...so then what is it, our constitution says about us having the right, no, the duty, to remove from office, and replace any government that no longer works for us????

33. It's not going to happen, don't worry
With support for this Iraq war at only 35% roughly don't expect much to happen. He's lost all his political capital so if he gets into a political fight over this there isn't much he can cushion his fall with. Besides, he would have to bring the draft back and that would cause massive riots and protests among younger people. Fearing loss of power themselves, the Republican congress would revolt and remove him if this ever did happen. They'd remove Mr. Cheney as well and probably put Hastert in after impeaching them both.

36. I thought you were overstating the case
But then I read it, because I try not to read/see anymore of the chimperor than necessary. We well could be fucked. The speech was long on seriously overblown rhetoric, but really, really short on facts. And I thought, hmmm, now where have I heard this before? Oh yeah, right! Like everyday of the week since the Education President morphed into the Caped Crusader in the WOT. But the same neocon whack jobs that said Iraq was so do-able are working hard to do Syria and Iran, and they're not backing off. Check out the "Golden Circle" of the United States Committee for a Free Lebanon at http://www.freelebanon.org/gc.htm

It includes Elliot Abrams, Paula Dobriansky, Doug Feith, Michael Rubin (all asterisked as having resigned after entering office), Frank Gaffney, Jean Kirkpatrick, Michael Ledeen, Richard Perle, Daniel Pipes and David Wurmser.
