"Bush Lied"
Republicans frame their issues by boiling down complex concepts to easy slogans. Democrats tend to muddle their message with mountains of facts and thoughtful nuance. 57% of Americans now believe bush* lied to get us into war. I think the only way we can push that number past 60 is to borrow a page from our opponents' play book and boil down the message:

Bush lied.

He said the evidence was sure when he knew it was false.

Lying to get us into Iraq is probably the worst lie ever told by any President in the history of the United States.

Bush attacked Ambassador Wilson by destroying his wife's career as a secret agent tracking WMD because he called him on one of the lies. In doing so he destroyed our international spy network that chases people selling nuclear weapons. He may have caused the deaths of many other US spies and their contacts.

Many of our Democratic leaders may feel it is impolite to use the "L" word, but they should still work it into their messages, at least indirectly.

Given that about 35% of voters are Kool-Aid drinkers and beyond reason, we need to reach that extra 10-13%. If you watched any of the Peter Hart focus group sessions on C-SPAN last campaign season, you know who I'm talking about. We have to spell it out for them in the simplest terms possible.

I suggest we have a contest where we try to explain the many outrages of the Bushco realm in the simplest, most direct language possible.

3. Failure is usually the result of LYING and the acceptance of the LIE
We fool ourselves when we swallow the cool aid....

Bush is simply a FOOL who is told to LIE and Decieve...

To Fool is to RULE....only if the Lie is accepted and embraced.

6. Agreed...
If the Democrats would even use the words and tone that Bush is using in criticizing them, it would be good. Why does it take them so long to just say what everyone already thinks?

8. Exactly. Those who are "unsure" will stay that way unless
we speak with surety.

11. He was up here in Anchorage LYING today...
:puke: http://www.ktuu.com/cms/templates/master.asp?articleid=1929&zoneid=1

"Bush criticices Democrats in speech at Elmendorf"

Looks like a few hearty Alaskans made it out to the Elmendorf Air Force base gate to protest:

"As Bush speaks at base, protestors gather outside gate"
http://www.ktuu.com/cms/templates/master.asp?articleid=1928&zoneid=1

They also showed a woman here who's son is clinging to life in a hospital in Germany, and told his story-- it was so sad!

"Anchorage, Alaska - She wasn't at a protest held today outside of Elmendorf Air Force Base, but she wasn't cheering President Bush either. Former Alaska gubernatorial candidate Diane Benson had her thoughts on her son, who suffered terrible injuries yesterday in Iraq. Diane Benson cherishes her box of photographs of her son's military service even more so today.

“All I know is I was abruptly woken at 8:20 in the morning Sunday morning, that something bad had happened to my son,” said Benson.

Benson's son, Latseen, a U.S. Army specialist, became the victim of a roadside bomb in Iraq. He lost his legs and still has not regained consciousness. Latseen Benson was on his second tour of duty in Iraq.

Benson says after her son’s first tour, Latseen tried to get out of the Army after his four-year commitment ended Oct. 31. But the military's stop loss order kept him in and sent him back to Iraq.

“So for 13 damn days, my son's life is ruined,” said Benson.

“We will stay on the offensive. We will not wait to be attacked again and we will press on until this war is won,” President Bush said today.

"Bush rallied support for the war in Iraq at Elmendorf today. There is a different tone in Chugiak, where the quote “Before one more mother’s child is lost,” from anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan hangs on Diane Benson's door.

“There is no Bush signed up for the service, no Bush standing there ready to be deployed. Instead my son gets to do it a second time when he didn't want to. He was ready to leave. He had done his commitment. He should have been allowed to leave. I would say all those things and more to Bush. My son's life is ruined today,” said Benson.

"Latseen Benson now clings to life at a hospital in Germany, facing a long road to recovery that will never make him whole. Benson says her son will be transported to Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. She says she plans to travel there in the next couple of days to be with him.

12. Prayers go out to Latseen Benson, who's lying in a hospital minus his legs
Thanks for including the story of Diane Benson and her son. God give her strength, and if Latseen lives, may his mind and spirit heal... My heart is torn for her.

The short take on Bush all along has been: "Bush lied. People died." and its opposite: "Non one died when Clinton lied."

14. Use these words and use them often.taken from GOP handbook
The following is taken from Language: A Key Mechanism of Control, a pamphlet which was sent to Republican candidates running in the 1990 elections. The pamphlet was developed by Gopac, a conservative group headed by the then House Republican Whip Newt Gingrich.

Contrasting Words

Often we search hard for words to define our opponents. Sometimes we are hesitant to use contrast. These are powerful words that can create a clear and easily understood contrast. Apply these to the opponent, his record, proposals and party.

anti-child deeper liberal shallow
anti-flag disgrace lie shame
betray devour machine sick
bizarre destroy obsolete status quo
cheat excuses pathetic steal
collapse failure radical taxes
corruption greed red tape they/them
crisis hypocrisy self-serving traitors
decay incompetent sensationalists welfare
