John McCain on Global Warming?
From the Weather section of the strib:

Friday evening, during a ceremony honoring Minnesota soldiers and veterans I had a chance to talk with guest of honor, Arizona Senator John McCain. He agreed that concern about the environment, global warming and climate change shouldn’t become a political litmus test. “Paul, I was up in the Yukon this summer. I saw an ax that was 9,000 years old; it had just thawed out of the ice,” he said. But couldn’t this be a random swing in temperature, a natural warming trend, I asked? He rolled his eyes and shook his head. “Too many coincidences. As far as the science is concerned its case closed.” What about a Presidential run in 2008? No comment.

1. McCain needs
to be stopped early on. He will become the darling of the media in the 08 campaign. You can tell that he is covering all the bases from environment, to making up with the religious right. I would have spots running on everything he ever said in support of Bush. From hugging him at the convention, and all the praise he leaped on Bush there. To the eating cake with bush on the Monday afternoon after katrinia hit. I would go negative against McCain now.

3. That was my impression, when he was on the Daily Show
with Jon Stewart and did not try to defend Cheney.

Yes, he is casting a wide net and when it will become serious, when he does get the party nomination - he might be too moderate for the rabid powers - don't be surprised to hear about the trial balloon that Kerry sent, to join him as his running mate.

4. McCain cares about global warming.
That is an honest opinion of his. It's not cynical calculation.

I would also doubt that the Republican base would tolerate McCain as their standard bearer.

6. He recently appeared with Chalabi at a Republican event.
He did not denounce him in any way.

(sorry is I didn't spell "Chalabi" right. "Chalibi"? "Chalebi"???)

2. Even the Fox New Network is running a special report on the reality
of Global Warming --including proof that it's ALREADY happening!

Maybe they're working over the base so McCain's science-based world won't seem so foreign?

5. robert kennedy jr. was on fox news yesterday talking about
global warming. he said it's a bigger threat than terrorism. as far as McCain he's saying what he thinks we want to hear. do not trust him.
