Freeper Fight!!! Freeper Fight!!! Freeper Fight!!!
Link to Freepers duking it out over Pat Robertson and religion.

Looks like the uneasy coalition of repugs and religious fascists is coming apart. Let's help it along, shall we?

DU Strategy--let's all drop PatRob a line and thank him from the bottom of our hearts for standing up for what he believes in and encourage him to keep speaking out, very loudly.

I met Pat Robertson in NH in 1988 when he was running for president. I think I even voted for him in the Primary.
The building where I met him was the very hotel where Nathaniel Hawthorne died. It has since been torn down.

58. Nathanial Hawthorne hated religious fundamentalism...
He authored several stories (long and short) about people's lives turned upsidedown by dogmaticism and religious hysteria. 'The Scarlett Letter' being one of them. I guess that the freeper is cheerfully connecting Pat Robertson's presence at the home to its later "downfall". :D

Taking that statement to its conclusion, that would mean they have no basis for bitching about abortion, because the "innocents" would go to a better life.

Maybe it only works if the "innocents" die as the result of a mortar attack.

I'm just sayin'.

Initially I think:

1.) Talk about Orwellian! (Animals are equal, but some are more equal than others...)

2.) Where does that fit in with their "Culture of Life"?

3.) Does that sort of thinking fit in with their argument of abortion?

4.) Talk about trying to get rid of a guilty conscience!

WHATEVER! If someone made a statement like that here on DU, I'm sure a ton of bricks would have been heaped upon their heads.

"Everyone has to die sometime and it's we humans who think of it in terms of deserved and undeserved, fair and not fair, just and not just. God has blessed this country far beyond anything that I've seen in history; we have untold amounts of food and clothes, warm houses, free time, we are able to sleep at night without fear and yet all these good things don't draw people to God. When He allows or causes "bad" things to happen to get their attention when blessing them beyond measure doesn't work, people get mad and blame Him. IMO, it's not important what happens to us as much as our reaction to it. That's what will matter for eternity. Yes it's sad when a baby dies because we see the potential that was lost for a long productive life on Earth, but whether it's 2 or 88, we still die."

Crap like this is why I'm studying to be a minister. Geez.

54. Favorite freeper humor
Religious broadcaster Pat Robertson warned residents of a rural Pennsylvania town Thursday that disaster may strike there

Has he reported this to the Department of Homeland Security?

Now we have a chance to appropriate his blood and his spirit to overcome sin, and the day is coming when every knee will bow, willingly or unwillingly.

Absolute submission to authority. No wonder Hitler and the Bush regime love it so well.

Edited on Fri Nov-11-05 12:11 PM by indigo32
or at least alot of us do. Maybe because then we don't have to take responsibility. We "let go and let God" and don't have to worry any more.
There was an old Amy Grant song that comes to mind
"I have decided, being good is just a fable, I just can't cuz I'm not able"

Personally I think it's a cop out.

60. My reading of that Freeper thread
is that there are about two supporters of Robertson's delusional quote and the rest are thoroughly embarassed.

Still, one wonders how long the American Right's strange combination of (1) Evangelical Protestants plus (2) Anti-Abortion Catholics plus (3) "Yes, Support Israel because Israel is the key to the Second Coming" Israeli Likudists will last.

Many liberal and even some mainstream religions have gone against Bush on issues like preemptive war, torture, and the recent budget debate. (I belong to one)

64. YET! Clinton, Hillary or liberals ALWAYS get mentioned by
Freepers. If there is a God, I would think God's judgment would be harshest on people like Pat Robertson that turn people off to God. I remember hearing somewhere that you are suppose to lead people to God not push them, funny, all the 'christians' I know ALWAYS turn me off to anything God. I don't want to stop living and wait to die and in the meantime before dying, making people's lives miserable by my constant judgment, berating, oppression and hate. Fire and brimstone is all these people talk about. Get a life freepers so you can leave ours alone.

70. I've often wondered what it would be like to a fly on the wall and
perch and listen to a conversation between two Republican ladies who are in the Republican voting base -

one who is a little old lady with the blue hair and pearls in a very nice suit, shoes, and bag who attends a calm little Protestant church and has lunch with friends at the club or in delicate restaurants

and one who is proseltizing, never listening, bible quoting, century reversing, slave to her 50 gun husband, and preacher to her kids who often complains that her church members who are Robertson rabid are too 'libbral'.

I believe Robertson might appeal to a lot of those little blue haired ladies and all of the preaching ones.

75. Geez, there are some Freepers that sound remarkably balanced
on the subject:

To: Siena Dreaming
My point of course is the absolute ridiculousness in pretending that people or a city or region are punished IN THIS LIFE by a deity for their misdeeds, which is what Pat Robertson, many WingNutDaily articles, and posters such as Quix and many others repeatedly suggest.

Any sort of punishment or reward in an afterlife is, as I said, a different (and unprovable of course) issue.

To: lightman
Pat Robertson does say something good once in a while. He really does.
But you won't hear/see it in the MSM. They will only print every single mistake.

And those who love to hate him will believe the MSM and jump on every single one of those.

Well, I can understand him saying that. Isn't that what we're told in the Bible somewhere? That if we turn away from God, that he will turn away from us? Know us not?

79. Agreed.
It's an interesting thread to follow, which is why I put up a link to it. While there's some "off" ones (as usual) which are pretty funny, looks like there's some common ground here for beating back the theocrat's attempted takeover.

Rejecting ID is sticking a finger in God's eye? I thought all those pro-ID nutcases were trying to convince the rest of us it's not about religion..... Wow, guess that was a lie.
Yep, it was an outright lie. ID never was about science, only about trying to run an end run around the Constitution and get their faith promoted in public schools.

And the Dover trial has shown us how too many creationists will lie to promote their faith.

82. my favorite was this
And sometimes even "absolute truth" has no effect on science.

Look at how many people have been ostracized in their time for a finding that went against the misguided science of their day. And then later it was been found that they were right and the scientific community, of their time of course, were wrong.

There are none so blind as those who will not see.

That wasn't scince that was doing that, it was the church. Talk about trying to twist things around, science has always been about facts proving or disproving, its been religion that doesn't like fact over beliefs.
