Here's the DU thread on the subject but I can't tell from reviewing it. Did they vote on this? Did it pass?

4. Wasn't voted on - I'm not sure when it will be or whether it's
in the list of 24 they're voting on.

3. The Bill on Iraq was referred to committee.
Edited on Thu Nov-10-05 05:44 PM by Mass
It was not an amendment on the Defense Bill, but an independent bill.

6. I thought it was an independent bill. What happens when it is
"referred to committee"?

9. It will wind up in Armed Services Committee
Where it can be put or not put on the docket of bills that actually come up in committee. Of course, the Rethugs would never allow this to come up. However, seeing as they are now running scared and afraid of the polls that say that 58%+ of country wants the US out of Iraq, maybe they can be persuaded by the public.

The bill would have to get some hearings and testimony. (Which would be unbelievable. Can you even imagine hearings in which the REthugs are called to tell us the actual state of what is going on in Iraq and why we must 'stay the course.' OMG, that would be incredible.)

The earliest this could come up is probably, waht, Feb? (Anyone know?) BTW, I love this. I hope to God it comes up. There are pople who find this bill faulty. Okay, get the damn thing on the floor and then offer up amendments that get what you want. But this has to get on the agenda in committee. We need to apply pressure on this to get any action.

10. Thanks for the explanation. I wonder if Kerry will send out one of
his emails to sign up supporting it?

8. We need to push this!
If people want to see this bill pass it needs to get pushed in the blogosphere.

That is the bottom line - we need to do what we do to move this through the MSM - make noise! We know this can work!

11. The plan is logical, so there is going
to be a LOT of Republican opposition.

It is absolutely amazing that, as John Kerry is proposing this plan, John McCain is saying "send more troops." The time has passed when adding more troops will do any good. All that would do now is make the mess bigger.

What is so brilliant about the Kerry Plan is that the fundamental idea is so simple and so logical: define a series of benchmarks that we need to meet in order to get the hell out and set the time line to the benchmarks instead of an arbitrary date.

Kerry's done a good job on this, but it will be an uphill battle with hawks like McCain stomping their feet and saying "bring it on" like their fearless :sarcasm: leader.

Somewhere between the idealogical hawks and doves is a plan. And it looks like this plan is a damn good one.
