The Repug Machine is sneaky but this won't work (CIA Leak)
Just heard on MSNBC that Hastert and Frist are initiating an investigation into a CIA Leak -

The leak about CIA prisons by the Washington Post!

Clearly they are trying to equate this with what is going on with Rove/Libby.

More dirty tricks...

3. I rather suspect they think they've got a democrat caught
or they wouldn't be making this such a deal.

The only other possibility is that by having 2 probes about CIA Leaks they can confuse everyone with misdirection.

7. That's all they want to do, confuse the issue in the mind of Americans:
"all that CIA stuff"

I guess they are also banking that the American people won't be to upset about remote prisons for terrorists.

4. You'd Think The LAST Thing They'd Want is MORE Attention To Our Gulags
Go figure.

"Someone tattled on our secret torture prisons!!!!"

I think Rove's seriously out to lunch. How could they think that bringing MORE attention to the fact that we have secret torture prisons could work in any way to their advantage?

Idiots.

Its a slap in the face of all undercover CIA agents stationed around the world.

hastert, frist, still trying to cover for bush. But don't forget the real culprits, the moron base, some of whom are your neighbors who allow this nonsense to go on.

11. Please call Harry Reid's office, and suggest using the word "stunt."
I think you've come up with a great response to this.

9. Good. Those investigations have a way of expanding into other areas
once they get started. And it is a "target rich" environment out there.

13. If this is misdirection, it's misdirected
Pointing out another damaging leak will almost surely add weight to the seriousness of the Rove/Libby/Cheney?* leak of Plame's identity...if the gulag leak is so damaging, how can anyone claim the Plame leak isn't?

Or are they so jaded they think THIS leak will make THAT leak look minor in comparison?

20. I still think the whole thing is a scam, even more so now.
Maybe I've just been living with a corrupt government for so long that I now am paranoid, but the timing seemed too perfect for the original "exposure" of the prisons.

The "leak" happened days after Scooty-scoot's indictments. Bush & Co., Inc. were pissed about those indictments - I mean, the leak of Valerie Plame's name was supposed to punish the CIA for daring to disagree with Cheney in the first place and now one of Cheney's own minions was going to pay the price for it?! Well, they won't have that!

So, not to be outdone, the White House made sure to strike back at the CIA by outing their secret prisons. I have no doubt that Bush & Co., Inc. <s>knew about</s> created the prisons in the first place, but details like that are unimportant to them. Undoubtedly the plan now was to put all the blame for said prisons on some poor CIA operatives and punish the agency once again for not marching lock-step with the White House.

This "investigation" just falls right in line with that plan. PLUS if after the last couple of weeks Joe-Blow American is scratching his head now and thinking, "Um, gosh, shouldn't they investigate when something goes wrong...?", they can now point to this and reassure him that everything's ok, they're on top of it.

It's a sham, a scam...a "stunt."

22. Here's a MUST-READ on this subject:
"Oops! Can Frist Have A Mulligan?

CNN is reporting that Trent Lott says the leak on the black ops CIA detention and torture facilities came from....erm...a GOP Senator. (Mrs. K8 below heard "Republican staffer" -- until the report repeats, I can't confirm one way or the other. Just FYI.)

Does Frist get a mulligan for ill-planned press releases? Or do we all just get to laugh at him?
More information as we get it. *snerk*

UPDATE: Raw Story has more. Looks like it may have been a Republican Senator -- much of the information discussed in the WaPo report was discussed at a GOP Senatorial meeting last Tuesday. And, by the way, if they've known about this for a week, at what point were oversight hearings going to be held?"

http://firedoglake.blogspot.com/

The above blog has an excellent analysis of this matter. Frist looks like a total idiot. (Yeah, I know, big surprise...) I suggest you read the last 3 or so (short) entries on this great blog.

23. that would be hilarious if it weren't so pathetic
these people have no moral compass whatever.

Can't they tell the difference between a leak meant to expose a crime and a leak designed to punish a whistleblower? It's not that difficult, if you think about it.

Oh yeah--those windup puppets don't really think, do they?
