NJ governor race tightening: Expect GOP dirty tricks
The 2000 race for 5th Congressional district had Garrett (Republican candidate) allies spamming every household in the district with automated, anonymous phone calls that attacked the Democratic candidate, Ann Sumers. It worked for Garrett.

I expect something similar in the gubernatorial race. Here's the latest update on the race, from the Bergen Record:

1. It's tightened slightly

But Corzine will still have a comfortable victory Tuesday. The GOP is sliming like crazy now. The media wants a horse race as well. The fdu polls seem like outliers anyway. the article mention other polls have him further ahead.

2. The tricks have already started
The Corzine "affair + abortion" is the scandal du jour....

That Forrester is the biggest putz going.

Clinton was in Newark and elsewhere getting out the vote--it just may come down to that. Here's hoping there isn't a repeat of the NH phone bank business...

3. The "affair-abortion" scandal has Rove's fingerprints all over it
Rove is the slimiest of the slime. This is classic Rove.

5. I cannot disagree with you there, if not Rove, a Rove-trained bastard
I'd love to see some talking head ask JOHN FUND what he thinks of the imbroglio....or Morgan Pillsbury, for that matter!

The dirty details (sadly, the links within this ancient reference no longer work, but that audiotape was something else--I only hope someone, somewhere, saved a copy): http://www.americanpolitics.com/20010905BakerFund.html

6. Ordinary people in Jersey despise both candidates
I was out with some non-partisan friends last night and the talk switched to the governor's race. The consensus was that Forrester is a liar and a crook. Corzine is a Wannabe President who'll screw the state over in his efforts to look good--the way that Whitman did.

Most people agreed that Corzine had been a good Senator but that trust factor is definately missing.

My friends like Codey and would like have seen him run. Of course Codey hasn't gone through the attack politics grinder yet--who knows what they could dig up on him or his family.

The negative ads pour out non-stop and my town's mixed paper recycling bins overflow with cadidates fliers--or more particularly fliers trashing the candidate's opponents.

This is not good for the state.
