How much credibility has Tim Russert lost in this CIA leak scandal?
He was questioned under oath by the Special Prosecutor. The fact came out, and Russert admitted it, that Scooter Libby called him personally to complain about the coverage or lack of coverage on a story by Chris Matthews on Hardball. Why would someone in the White House call a newsman of Russerts stature? How many more Scooter Libbys are out there feeding the vultures in the news media? Russert's credibility has been damaged by this scandal. He has become part of it. Why didn't he report what he knew about it? How much more information is he keeping from the American people?

14. Thanks, Kentuck. I have been trying to get people to see
this side of it as well.

Not only did he take his marching orders from Libby, he tried to protect him.

I think we could even take it one step further.

Maybe he thought that testifying that he didn't tell Libby would lead to the assumption that it wasn't discussed.

He is a lying disgusting............you fill in the blanks

4. You would think so...except
that Time seems intent on making him some kind of media giant. Arianna doesn't buy it:

12. Today's Arriana Post Very Disturbing
the fact that Libby calls Russert to complain about Matthews, who then turns around and calls THE PRESIDENT OF NBC NEWS on behalf of Libby is frightening.

It's no wonder Cheney has been on MTP 10 times vs Zero Times on This Week With George Stephanopoulos.

Another let down by The Times piece today on Russert. It was written by the husband of Dee Dee Myers. It's sad when we can't count on people who you'd think might be just "a little" more balanced in the press.

Mr. Dee Dee Myers is more concerned with not burning bridges and his career. God forbid he diss "the mighty Russert". Could be a job opening at NBC someday - best not to step on any toes.

5. I honestly don't believe he's lost all that much...
We've known for a while Russert was called up by the special prosecutor and he may have kept quiet because he was instructed to by the MSNBC lawyers. I wouldn't be surprised.

IMO, most Americans will take what Russert says at face value.

his wife, Maureen Orth, is quite liberal. 'Course, that doesn't make Timmy one, but it helps.

18. I never realized that Russert was held in contempt in 2004:

Russert Held in Contempt in CIA Leak Case

NBC's Tim Russert Held in Contempt of Court for Refusing to Testify in Probe of CIA Leak
The Associated Press
http://abcnews.go.com/wire/Politics/ap20040809_1236.html

WASHINGTON Aug. 9, 2004 — A federal judge held a reporter for Time magazine in contempt of court Monday for refusing to testify before a grand jury investigating the leak of the identity of a covert CIA officer.

In an order issued July 20 but not made public until Monday, U.S. District Judge Thomas F. Hogan ruled that Time's Matthew Cooper and "Meet the Press" host Tim Russert were required to testify "regarding alleged conversations they had with a specified executive branch official."

NBC News issued a statement saying that Russert already had been interviewed under oath by prosecutors on Saturday under an agreement to avoid a protracted court fight. The interview concerned a July 2003 phone conversation he had with
Vice President Cheney's chief of staff, Lewis "Scooter" Libby.
