2. MAke no mistake, they are going to go to the mattresses on this one.
But...
when the tide turns--and it will, and they are no longer the majority party, they will live to regret overturning the filibuster.

7. Why?
By that time the courtwill be sacked, Democrats will be outlaws, and anyone who voted for Dean will be hunted and fed to the children at re-education camps.

6. Let him do it. Fuck him. They will be the ones who took democracy away
And, ultimately, nothing is gonna stop them.

If its gonna come down to this, then lets have them just go ahead and do it.

Why keep up this bogus pretense that Republicans have any shred of respect for law and order?

8. Hate to bring this up...but the filibuster rule is not in the Constitution
its in the rules of the Senate. As a matter of principle, I think it should be sustained, but its not as sacred as you think.

10. But the right to debate in the Senate is the core of our system.
And to the extent that the filibuster protects that right, it is sacred and implied in the Constitution. Read the Federalist Papers, and you will learn that the Founding Fathers would be appalled by the goose-step voting of the Republicans in Congress. That is not the kind of Congress that the FFs anticipated. They were expecting Congress to be a kind of free-for-all of different viewpoints and interests. An Alito does not get appointed in a free-for-all process.

11. I fully agree with the right to debate.
If the entirety of all of Alito's cases are read into the federal register, fine by me.

"Shut down" the Senate. Let it take a month. Two months. Three months. Fillibuster to prevent continuation spending bills. Suspend Senate holidays.

If I were in charge, I'd have the Senate open 24/7, but tweak the rules briefly to prevent having 3 repubs or 4 dems, 3:30 am after 3 weeks of such proceedings make a motion and approve it.

But after all the members' viewpoints have been expressed, all the pertinent material read into the record, what then? What follows isn't debate, if it's saying the same thing over and over: that's not debate, that's repetition for the sake of obstruction. The only thing that logically follows the conclusion of debate is ...

Vote.

13. The Bush administration is in a precarious position.
His appointing someone to the Supreme Court who may be determining whether he must stand to answer for his lies to the American people is unseemly in untimely. It would be better to wait to confirm the next justice until Fitzgerald has completed his investigation.

9. Worth noting that the "ruling over gun control"
inviolved this fuckwit ruling that Congress has no right to keep machine guns out of the hands of charmers like the Crips, the Aryan Nation and the Beltway Snipers.
