its in the rules of the Senate. As a matter of principle, I think it should be sustained, but its not as sacred as you think.

Read the Federalist Papers, and you will learn that the Founding Fathers would be appalled by the goose-step voting of the Republicans in Congress. That is not the kind of Congress that the FFs anticipated. They were expecting Congress to be a kind of free-for-all of different viewpoints and interests. An Alito does not get appointed in a free-for-all process.

11. I fully agree with the right to debate.

If the entirety of all of Alito's cases are read into the federal register, fine by me.

"Shut down" the Senate. Let it take a month. Two months. Three months. Fillibuster to prevent continuation spending bills. Suspend Senate holidays.

If I were in charge, I'd have the Senate open 24/7, but tweak the rules briefly to prevent having 3 repubs or 4 dems, 3:30 am after 3 weeks of such proceedings make a motion and approve it.

But after all the members' viewpoints have been expressed, all the pertinent material read into the record, what then? What follows isn't debate, if it's saying the same thing over and over: that's not debate, that's repetition for the sake of obstruction. The only thing that logically follows the conclusion of debate is ...
