Subpoena james dobson NOW!
The smarmy little bastard who hates in the name of Jesus Christ has talked to rove about the miers nomination and says he supports her because of things he knows that others might not know. The senate should subpoena him, have him raise his right hand and swear to tell the truth to the judiciary committee. That shouldn't be a problem for a fine upstanding conservative should it? And then have him answer the question, did the white house assure you that harriet miers will vote to overturn roe v wade? Its all very simple Senators. Just Do It! And then let the neanderthals fall where they may.

1. The Democrats on the Committee can't issue subpoenas
But Specter has made some noises as though he thinks Dobson needs to account for his comments.

I'd tune in for that testimony.

2. The right thing to do is subpoena him
In other words, the republicans probably won't, but that in itself should be a story. Totally unbelievable that such a fantastic self absorbed human like dobson would not voluntarily put his hand on the bible and swear to tell the truth. Maybe some lurker can splain it to me.

6. But they can certainly call him as a witness and
make him look like he is hiding something if he refuses.

4. Make sure he swears on the Court's bible
("Fried Green Tomatos" had the local minister testify that he saw the accused in a three-day revival at the time of the crime. But when it came time to "swear in", he said "I brought my own copy, thank you." It was a copy of Melville's "Moby Dick" . . . nobody bothered to check).

5. I think this incident may be Miers' undoing...
This IS a scandal: behind-the-scenes WH dealmaking between Rove and Dobson on how their nomionee will vote on issues... the only way to suppress this scandal is for the hearings NOT to take place. At this point, the cat is out of the bag, and it is pretty certain Dobson will be called to testify about "what he knows". Therefore, I believe that Miers may withdraw her nomination in the near future, at the VERY PRIVATE request of B*sh, "the most brilliant man she's ever met" and whom she adores.

But, if Rove gets indicted first, that may change everything. Perhaps the WH will cut him loose, stop protecting him and let events unfold.
