Message to Hillary supporters

Anyone posting in support of Hillary for pres in 2008 falls into one of four general categories:

1. Freeper-hyping the person most likely to get beaten in general election

2. Delusional-Primary polls this early are worthless. Hillary is leading because she is the most recognizable. She also draws a huge female base among democratic voters. She is getting a free ride because she is the only female contender against many males that have their vote split up. She will fare very poorly in an open election when she is one on one. She is simply too divisive in a time when the country desperately needs to be brought together.

3. Unrealistic Ideologue-You pretty much fall into the same category as Green supporters over the last couple election cycles. Yes, Hillary is a fine person and would probably make an excellent president, just as the Green party has many great progressive ideas in their party's plank. However, the country at present is not ready for Hillary or the Green party.

4. Feminist-You are thinking of your own self interest over that of the party. You would support just about any female over a legitimate male contender.


Focus on 06' election to install a Dem majority that our Democratic president can work with in '08. Then begin supporting Gore, Clark, or Kerry for the '08 election. These are our best bets. Others may come along that are promising, but Hillary can not repair the disdain people have for her, even if that hatred is misguided. The current Republican party is imploding and there is an opportunity to capture many moderate conservatives to our side as well as Independents. However, these people will be glad to stay put on the Republican side if Hillary is their only defection choice.

I am starting to believe that the product is irrelevant and only the packaging matters. Dubya was created out of propoganda. H.C. is well funded, well organized and understands how to campaign to win. The truth is she may be our strongest candidate. Now, she's not my first choice and I don't like some of the company she has been keeping lately. For Green sympathizers, she is not exactly the ideal choice.

7. What is needed is a progressive economic populist

We need somebody who can connect wholeheartedly with the voters of America on working class issues. Somebody who consistently stands up for the working man and wants for that working man better job security, better labor standards, better health care for him and his family, and a better education to best serve his children is somebody who can win.

This NAFTA/CAFTA/free trade regimen is not working, and sending off the worker's son to die in Iraq won't do it. Nevermind cutting services to him by giving tax breaks to the wealthiest.

Plus, he's smart, attractive, articulate and actually respected by quite a few paleo-conservatives and moderate voters.

Well...yeah. I kinda like deciding what to do with my body without the interference of a bunch of "big" (they wish) boys in Washington, DC.

I kinda like the thought of equal pay for equal work. In fact, I'm real fond of the effort to bring equal freedoms to women in America.

It's true that Hillary is not the only one who might be on our side, and maybe I won't (or will) support her, but the reason for my support would certainly be "self-interest" as a female. (Or women's interests). And only a person who has always had the vote and equality would think it wasn't important.

If anyone, Democrat or any other party, refuses to stand up for women's rights, they won't have my vote.
I doubt very much that any minority would vote for someone unwilling to stand for them.
