What would be wrong if 1 or more of our Dem leaders who voted for the war
stood up and courageously admitted he or she made a terrible mistake? Would it be so wrong if they told the American people something like this?....."I want to admit that I made a terrible mistake. I voted to authorize our country to go to war in Iraq. I voted this way because I fell for a lie. I was told that there was clear evidence that Iraq had WMD's, and THAT'S why I voted for the authorization. Had I known back then that this was a flagrant lie, I would never have voted "yes". I apologize to the American people for my mistake and for my part in contributing to this awful mess. For the record, I am against continuing this war for another day, a war that's taking the lives of so many innocent people, and I call for our country to withdraw immediately. The United States was not attacked by Iraq. It was attacked by terrorists who were based in Afghanistan, and that's where our focus should've remained. I am all for protecting our country as anyone, but I'm not for stirring up a global hornets nest of anti-US sentiment by attacking someone who posed no real threat to us. The United States is the most powerful nation on earth, and we do NOT need to stoop to such methods as we did in this case. We can never use something like a lie as an excuse to attack an innocent country, ever again. I'm telling you this because I love my country and I want to see dignity and pride returned to our flag as soon as humanly possible."

What would be so hard about that? I mean, their vote WAS based on a lie, wasn't it?

2. None of them want to sound like morons
But if they did the ensuing press attention would be great and the public opinons of that person's ethics would go through the roof. And just for a capper it would not give any ammo to the opposition. I mean they were the one's lying so i guess their slogan could be something along the lines of. "C'mon like you have never lied" or "I am a better liar then so and so" hmm nice idea.

3. I'd be very impressed.
And it would encourage a LOT of other people, politicians and others, to join in.

We've given it enough time now. There has to be a way for us to withdraw without throwing the whole mess into turmoil. Time to think out of the box.

5. Then.... they can stay. BUT....
I want every democrat who voted for the war (including the Kerry) defeated in their primary if they can't stand up and make such an admission.

6. I've wondered the same thing
Clearly, the selective use of the intelligence and analysis by this administration was designed to mislead people into thinking that we faced some imminent danger from Saddam's regime in Iraq. We now know that as loathesome as Saddam was and is, he had no more ability to be a threat to the United States than the man in the moon.

8. I have thought this ever since the war vote weas taken.
It would seem to be such a common-sense thing to do. But then, they do not seem to have much of that.

No Dem who voted for the war and does not make this kind of statement will ever get my support again.

10. Sen. Rockefeller of WV
Edited on Thu Sep-29-05 10:55 AM by Catrina
said he was sorry he had voted for it, quite a while ago.

I thought John Edwards had also said that had he known then what he knows now, he would not have voted for it, but I could be wrong.

And of course, to give credit where it's due, Rep. (freedom fries guy) Jones (R) has said he regrets his vote.

Maybe the reason others are not standing up now is because they are in favor of these policies, and have no problem with the war.

I supported Kerry last time, but was very disturbed about his IWR vote. This time I will not support anyone who supports this criminal war, and the killing of so many of our own troops and Iraqi people. It is immoral to do so, imo.

If it means going to a third party candidate who stands up and firmly condemns this war and any others they may be contemplating, that's what I'll do. But I compromised once, and I feel very guilty about that. I won't do it again. No compromise when it comes to people's lives.

I can imagine talking to an Iraqi mother right now, (I have talked to an Iraqi father) and trying to tell her 'look, I'm not in favor of this war, but I have to support a candidate who is not against it. Try to understand, I really am on your side'.

What those women said to Karen Hughes yesterday was so true 'Iraq war is a women's issue' ~ it certainly is, for those who are still alive.

And she said it 'wounds me' ~ and Karen Hughes was 'stunned' and did the freeper act 'but what about Saddam and my friend George didn't want war'.. That's how we sound when we support a candidate who supports this war ~ in any way!! I WILL NOT DO IT AGAIN. It's immoral.
