Candidate Revew and Self Promotion
For those interested.

I run a website ( http://politicalcomment.blogspot.com ) called Make me a Commentator!!! which has, as it's motif, the idea that instead of some of the other talking heads that populate the airwaves, perhaps they should give me a lot of money instead.

Anyway, this being the pre-primary season, I am doing candidate reviews. I take an issue (like Civil Rights, or, say, reactions to Capturing Saddam Hussein), and find comments from each of the candidates. There are four so far, and I'll be doing one or two a week for a while. (who can say how long? They'll get easier once people start dropping out (if they do)). I put them in the left hand column of the website, right under my e-mail address.

A few caveats. I like all our candidates (well mostly). Any of the candidates I'd be proud to vote for, so the candidate reviews are not commented on a great deal, nor do I seek out negative quotes.

Secondly, remember that mostly? Well, I don't like Gephardt much. I recognize that he's done a lot in the House of Representatives, but he rubs me the wrong way. I try not to let that effect my selection of quotes, but it's always better to be open about this kind of thing.

Third, I'm at the mercy of the candidates websites. Sharpton does not have much of a web presense, and Mosley Braun not much more, so neither gets quoted as much. Kerry, Gephardt and Edwards all suffer from letting some campaign staffer run the website (well, they all do that), but in those cases, to a varying extent, the information is presented as from the Campaign, not the Candidate. I prefer to use the Candidates actual words rather than "Senator Kerry believes . . ." So they often get shorter quotes.

Anyway hope this is of some use or enjoyment to you all.

Bryant
